Police are trying to figure out why a man took a bag of weapons with him to an Ohio movie theater showing the latest Batman movie.
Not to make light, but this reminds of the scene in Killer Klowns from Outer Space when a security guard stumbles upon the aforementioned Klowns carrying a bunch of cream pies and says "uhhhh....whaddaya gonna do with those pies?"

U. of Iowa rejected Colorado shooting suspect

It's kind of strange. It seems U of Iowa rejected James Holmes, even though he was qualified. In the interviews, they sensed something weird about him. It would be interesting to hear from the interviewers what it was about him they didn't like.

I remember reading that a gun club rejected his request for membership based solely on a voicemail message.

Many programs often have more qualified applicants than positions, so many other things might have influenced the decision. Still, it's unusual to send an e-mail like that, since it's a public document. Note that no reason was given, so the admissions committee was cautious in that respect.

It could have been the interview and impression left, or somebody may have spoken to a faculty member at a previous school.

I remember a candidate for a faculty position who was arrogant, dismissive of others, taught a sample class horribly, and on his second day on campus was unshaven with bad body odor. He was genuinely surprised when he didn't get the job.
