I heard it was his LCL(not MCL) along with the ACL - which is very strange. I know when my son tore his the doctor said that generally a partial tear of an ACL is the same as a complete tear - he said it basically unravels like a tight rope when you cut it with a knife. I understand he has already had an ACL reconstruction on this knee, so that complicates things.

He probably (like I'm almost sure of it) had tore it before the play in question. He shouldn't have been out there. Continuing to play with a torn ACL will certainly cause more damage that will impact full recovery. I hear these talking heads talking about the tough decision the coach had because the player is telling him he can go. These decisions need to be taken out of the hands of the players and coaches. There needs to be a medical person on the sidelines who is saying yes/no. Players want to play, coaches are worthless slime, so nothing good will come out of that combo.

Andrews said he didn't get a chance to examine him so he excused himself.

“Coach Shanahan didn’t lie about it, and I didn’t lie,” Andrews said Monday afternoon. “I didn’t get to examine [Griffin’s knee] because he came out for one play, didn’t let us look at him and on the next play, he ran through all the players and back out onto the field. Coach Shanahan looks at me like, ‘Is he OK?’ and I give him the ‘Hi’ sign as in, ‘He’s running around, so I guess he’s OK.’ But I didn’t get to check him out until after the game. It was just a communication problem. Heat of battle. I didn’t get to tell him I didn’t get to examine the knee. Mike Shanahan would never have put him out there at risk just to win a game.”

As I said before:
That sequence of events surrounding the injury was keystone cops. It was hard to believe they couldn't see and communicate on something obvious to everyone watching at home.

Besides the stupidity of risking more damage to Griffin III, was the Shanahan thinking that using a severely gimped QB that relies on his running/scrambling abilities was the best chance to win the game.

Any doctor that says that is incredibly irresponsible. "Running around" with a torn ACL is very do-able. The problem is when you decide you want to change direction - that's when the two sticks (femur/tibia) are no longer balanced and having nothing to keep them in place.

So what. The player can say whatever they want to say. And I admire him for wanting to play, but it should be a decision made by the medical staff. You take the player and scum bag coach out of the equation.

it wouldn't have been too hard to catch Griffin if he tried to run back out there.

It's all on Shanahan, in my opinion. Andrews said that he was scared to death that RG3 was playing on the injury. That's all I need to hear from the doctor. At that point, Shanahan has to sit him. The doctor can't bench him, but Shanahan can, and should have.
