Re: The OFFICIAL meat smoking thread
I need to suck it up and get a new grill. I've held off on getting another one for a few years because I'm just not confident that somebody won't steal it sitting behind the building and I don't want to have to clean one and drag it down to the basement after using it every time.
However, the lady who lives under me has had a cheap looking grill/smoker thing sitting behind the building for over probably close to two years now and nobody has messed with it so I guess it would be safe enough. I just won't buy anything super expensive and keep it fairly cheap so that if it does get stolen, it isn't the end of the world.
So, recommendations on a smoker that works decent enough, can grill up a steak as well and isn't so expensive that I'll cry if it gets stolen after a couple of months?

My cheapo Brinkman smoker and Weber kettle grill are in storage...sniff sniff. Our apartment has gas grills which are good for the easy stuff. I just noticed that we also have new Firemagic charcoal grills. Jonesing to try it out. Brand new stainless steel. the coal grate can be raised or lower to control temps, and has a door to add more coal if needed.
On the downside, it's new and seems antiseptic. On the plus side, with the availability of gas grills and most my wealthy youngsters apt-dwelling neighbors that don't like the extra fuss, I think this grill will be all mine. It's been there 2 weeks and is unused.

I have trouble getting it up to temp in the winter but never had a problem maintaining temp. I know some people add a second element.jdk82 wrote:I have a Bradley smoker and a Weber performer deluxe.
