I am confused as to why this forum thinks asking a pitcher to get 5 outs in a game is practically an impossible task.

This is what happens when you have 8 relievers and don't trust half of them.pioneer98 wrote:Exactly. Why carry that many relievers if you're going to try for 5 out saves?Fat_Bulldog wrote:Why carry 19 relievers if you're going to stick with bad matchups anyway?
Giving up the HR to Yelich was forgivable but not the one to Braun.
Eh, I can't agree. "Difficult" is over stating it. This is a relief pitcher's job.jagtrader wrote:Pushing Leone was a perfectly reasonable strategy. But you have to acknowledge that getting the final five outs when you start with the tying runs already on base is a difficult task. Lead was on the line for every pitch. That's a high stress outing for a guy who has never been a closer.
Leone threw that slider to Yelich four straight times. Not completely sure who to blame because Yadi clearly called it. But going back to that same spot with that same pitch so many times is trouble no matter how you're feeling. He "went back to the well" as the broadcast said one too many times and that's the one Yelich crushed. Leone totally hung that one. Then he tried it again, hung it, and Braun crushed it too.dmarx114 wrote:More to the point, Leone got a pop out and a strike out to start the 9th. Then he made Yelich look silly on a 1-1 pitch. At this exact point, I challenge anyone to say that Leone was looking tired, or stressed, or any other BS excuse.
Leone got beat by 2 all stars. It happens.
