The government didn't take anything away. These are all private companies making their own decisions.

?

If his old plan didn't meet the ACA min standards, then the company couldn't offer his plan any longer.

Ergo, the govt took it away.

If not for the ACA, his plan (or something very similar) would still be available for him to choose.

The ACA sets very reasonable standards for what constitutes legit health care coverage. The companies are perfectly capable of meeting those standards but are unwilling to do so because they don't want to sacrifice their bottom line. They gladly offered the old plans because they didn't have to cover anything and all of the costs were passed on as out of pocket to the insured. If people were happy with their old, cheap coverage it's because they hadn't gotten around to actually using it yet.

When I get a horrible disease and need a transplant I want the government to require the hospital to take care of me then let everyone else pay for my healthcare with increased costs.

Sounds about right to me.
Yes we're all incompetent blubbering morons without the government to tell us what to do.

We can all count on industry not to poison our rivers and streams without government telling them not to. We can all count on the banking and finance industries to not steal our money without the government telling them not to.
So on and so on and so on.

Okay libertarians, so no social safety nets then? And yeah, many of us are blubbering morons or don't have the information or have lousy luck or weren't born with a silver spoon or get hit by a tornado or or....

Actually, I'm with you that the government should stay out of our way as much as possible. Pretty sure we just disagree where that line is.

Again, the government is dictating what it thinks is best for people and mandating that private business and individuals abide or get punished. Some people think that's OK, while some people, like me, think it cuts against the ideals this country was founded upon and that the government is so inept is has no business setting standards for what they believe constitutes legit health care coverage. Who the [expletive] do they think they are? This entire bill has been a disaster from the start.

Anyway, this is why I think debating something like this is a useless exercise. No one is going to change their minds no matter how many pages this thread goes.

gov'ts dictate. thats what they are supposed to do.

other than cost (which is related to so many other factors that have been neglected) i dont know why people don't want good health insurance. we aren't supermen.

and while i realize gov't isn't perfect, i dont want to live in a world where private enterprises can do whatever they want.

Well, they do that anyway with the government trying not to let them, no? And, the government gave the bankers and financiers a ton of money a couple years ago, no?

Odd examples, but your point is well taken.

National Parks are awesome. As much as we kvetch about it, America's highway system is awesome. There are millions of other things the gov't does that is great. But, regulation is not their strong suit, imo.

Absolutely. We don't regulate enough. The government is way to beholden to Wall St and the business world and not to its real stakeholders.
