A big problem with this .gif, though, is that Petrino is already in a neck brace.

In truth, that buyout from Western Kentucky (was it $1.2 million?) was miniscule, so W. Kentucky had to know that Petrino's leaving was a likelihood. Tom Jurich (the Louisville AD) is the man who vouched for Petrino at Western Kentucky, and it's almost as if Petrino were sitting there as Jurich's insurance policy if Strong left. Additionally, I wonder if Western Kentucky and Louisville will schedule games against each other more often--a possible benefit to Western Kentucky going forward. And there was a puff piece in the Courier-Journal early in the search process in which Petrino's father said Bobby would LOVE to come back to Louisville. What the heck was that about? Long story short, the whole thing seemed like a done deal at the very beginning. I really don't know how much was genuine buzz or generated buzz, to tell you the truth.
But I don't know how any AD could trust Petrino, and I wonder if the discipline of the football program will deteriorate now that Bobby's returned.

My thoughts:
1. Petrino is a brilliant football mind. He has always shown he can do more with less talentes recruits as he can coach and develop talent and also fits the xo schemes around what he has.
2. That said, how could a parent of a recruit - let alone a 3+ star recruit - ever trust that bmfp would be there. Period. Forget in a figurative sense. In a literal sense, how can anyone be confident a guy that has signed like 20+ years worth of contracts and been to 5 separate jobs in the past 6 years will still be at this job in 4 years? If I can say that, every acc coach can as well.
3. Its sad imo that louisville took petrino back after his shenanigans.

It's like taking back your husband after he got dumped by his younger girlfriend after she gave him chlamydia.

I think Louisville just wants him to maintain their somewhat elevated national profile, even if he plans to leave the second a better job comes up. He's probably a better bet to do that than taking a chance on an up and comer who would stick around longer. Although AW's point about recruits has some validity.

We don't have a 2014 thread yet, so:

Here's a really awesome (if clunky) map tool to see where college football recruits come from. You can sort by star rating, position, state, school, conference, and even height and weight:
