Go Birds, I want the best for you and Tennessee. I had a fantastic time there in 2015 when I traveled over for the OU game. IMO Gruden, for many reasons stated more eloquently in this thread than I could ever postulate, is not the right hire. The college game has so many different variables (off the field) compared to the professional game. There are time limits (practice, film, etc.) that restrict the amount of time you can spend with the players (and he is a film junkie) as well as all of the recruiting and "glad-handing" that is required for a program like Tennessee. I don't know that these requirements and limitations will align with his personality.

I'm not saying he wouldn't succeed, but I do have my doubts that he is the right fit at Tennessee right now. Chip Kelly isn't an option (I see him staying on the West Coast...likely UCLA). Thus, if you want an established coach, you probably need to either go with Dan Mullen (who knows the SEC) or Chad Morris (a really good offensive mind) who could shake up the SEC.

Just my .02
i respect your opinion storm, but the thing is, the fanbase needs a spark and none of those names you mentioned provides that.

there will be a learning curve, for sure, but i think that's overblown. It's not like gruden hasn't been doing his homework.

We shall see.

Glad you had a good time at neyland btw...not many places like it to see a game.

Bama
Clemson
The U
OU

Wisconsin
Auburn

It doesn't really matter this early, but I have a little bit of a problem with Clemson at 2. They have a number of good/decent wins, but their best win (Auburn) was early in the season when Auburn wasn't playing as well (and they only won by 8 at home). Meanwhile OU has 3 top 13 wins....all of which were by double digits and two were on the road. Plus Clemson has a horrible loss to Syracuse (who is 4-6).....it seems the committee is giving them the Bama treatment. I'm also seeing some teams that appear to be over-ranked (LSU, Mississippi State, NC State, USC) IMO.

Oh well....it's early.

They don't have the money for Urban Meyer...plus Jungle Jack Hannah will lead the Zoo animals on an invasion of Tennessee if they try it.

Fisher doesn't get along too well with the FSU administration, so that might be an interesting inquiry.
Frost is a bit young/inexperienced, but he is doing a helluva job at UCF.
Gundy will likely never leave Stillwater....no pressure and he is paid handsomely to win 8-10 games a year at his alma mater.
Mullen would be interesting....especially with the talent available to him at UT and knowing the SEC already.
Cutcliffe....pass
NArduzi.....pass
Brohm is a good coach, but I need to see more from him before a semi-blue blood comes calling
Campbell would be a helluva hire, but likely wouldn't get the fans too excited.
I just don't think Gruden would be a good fit.
Hoke....good lord....no!

Jeff Long no longer the AD for the U of A. Most likely means Bielema will be gone after the year as well.
