BW23 wrote:I'm sure she didn't realize what she'd said. And she wouldn't have had time to correct it anyway. That was the end of the interview. Ever been on TV before? National TV? It's easy to get nervous. She was very, very nervous. And she was responding to a question where the host was asking her if her dad was out of touch since Obama said he was. I took her comment as saying that among the candidates that nobody understood more. She could be a complete flake, and I'd say that's a good possibility. She could have meant that nobody understood like her dad...and meant nobody in the country. I just doubt that's the case, as much as some want to believe it.Socnorb11 wrote:McCain has already used the "lipstick on a pig" analogy twice. Seems like fair play to me. I think tha's a slippery slop that Biden is walking, and he was probably out of line.BW23 wrote:You should take umbrage. She clearly wasn't nervous, knew exactly what she was saying, and she meant every American...not just Barack Hussein Obama or Biden.Socnorb11 wrote:BW23 wrote:Does using the name Barack Hussein Obama offend you in some way? If you're going to take umbrage with the silly statement by Meghan McCain, in her first interview, from what I can tell, on network television where she was clearly very nervous, and continue to drive home (by quoting your own posts since nobody else sees it as a big deal), then why can I not using Hussein when I refer to your candidate? He thinks it's a good way to get the world back on our side.
Use Hussein as many times as you want to. It offends me that you're trying to be offensive.
And yeah, I take complete umbrage with what Meghan McCain said. My son will be deployed next year. I've got friends & relatives in Iraq. It's a horrible feeling. So yeah, she can kiss my ass.
And she's clearly the mouthpiece of the McCain campaign.
Did it offend you that Barack Husseing Obama called Palin a pig yesterday or that Biden implied that she didn't really care about her disabled child?
I don't care if she's the mouthpiece of the McCain campaign or not. I'm offended that she said it. I'm offended that she didn't immediately correct herself. I'm offended that she's not informed enough to realize that Biden also has a son being deployed. I'm offended that she "really" thinks she knows what war is all about, considering she's never lost a family member to war, and thousands of families have. McCain is allowing her to be a mouthpiece for his campaign, and it's pretty clear that she's got no concept of what war is like, despite the entire campaign being rallied by war stories.
And Obama clearly meant Palin when he said pig and he clearly meant McCain when he said old fish. McCain's used it before, but not in the way Obama did. Just look at the way he phrased it, relishing in the crowd's response.
But it made a good commercial.

Yeah, OK. I get it. Nobody in the McCain camp means any harm....... they're only there to inspire people. And everyone in the Obama camp is hateful, sexist, unpatriotic and offensive.
Thanks reading between all of the lines for us. Sheesh.. we'd be lost without your help.

What makes it appear to be a slip of the tongue, and what does it have to do with the "pig" comment? The pig comment wasn't a slip of the tongue at all. It's an expression that's been used time and time again by politicians. McCain himself used to to mock Hilary. What does that have to do with what Meghan said?

No one is (or should be) offended by it. That's the entire point. But when opponents of his use it, the connotation and implications are clear. And that's about as shallow and sad as politics can possibly get.BW23 wrote:No, I won't. Especially since I can't even spell it correctly.
But I do find it odd that so many people are offended by it when he wants it embraced.
Well, until someone smarter than him told him it wasn't a good idea. It wasn't Republican bloggers or talk show hosts that started using it. It was him. And that cracks me up.

I was doing so simply based on reading yesterday those comments he made about it. It was more about the ridiculousness of his comments. The first few times I heard him speak I really thought he was a tremendous speaker. I'm starting to question that judgment.cardsfansince82 wrote:No one is (or should be) offended by it. We're not offended by "it". We're offended by you using it as a means of mockery.
Who told him it wasn't a good idea?

You're sarcastically saying don't complicate things by looking for logic in defending Obama. Yet, you are not at all looking for logic in what Meghan McCain said only condmning her based on one or two sentences in an interview.Socnorb11 wrote:AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Yet, you're going to condemn Meghan McCain for what appears to be a slip of the tongue. If you really believe that Meghan McCain doesn't think any other family knows how bad war can feel, then I don't know what to say.

You don't see the difference here? I'm condemning what Meghan said. BW is condemning a far-fetched interpretation of what Obama said (he never mentioned Palin, or implied that he was talking about Palin).
One thing was said, the other wasn't.
