Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
Pollsters DO poll cell phones, actually. I read somewhere that a poll included land line and cell phone voters.. can't remember which freaking pollster it was.

I definitely am not "afraid" of whoever wins. They both have their upsides and their downs.

Cell phone only is ~15% of the population, and currently the consensus is that their exclusion does not harm estimates about the entire population but do harm estimates about particular subgroups (especially young people). Pollsters are exempted from the Do Not Call list.Popeye_Card wrote:I'm not sure what to make of polls anymore. I don't think they can call cell phones, and I'm not sure that they can call anyone on the national Do Not Call list. So who does that leave?

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
Gallup remains the sole outlier. They continue to say:
McCain - 48
Obama - 43
Yesterday:
McCain - 49
Obama - 44
They both lost a point. I have no idea what to even make of Gallup anymore. Every pollster in the country has Obama +1 or +2, Tie or McCain +1 or +2. Gallup has McCain up 5 and it's completely [expletive] with the trend and averages.

Cell phones cannot be legally dialed with the automated equipment preferred by pollsters. You can conduct a survey including cell phone users but it is more expensive and difficult. I don't believe any of the tracking polls are doing this.PujolJunkie wrote:Pollsters DO poll cell phones, actually. Yes - the thread needs to return to the candidates' stance on the issues -
Foreign policy - Its Iraq. Domestic policy its the economy. And how the economy and Iraq are related.
Whoever wins president will inherit one huge fricken mess with little means to do anything about it. US is a country in decline in world economic and diplomatic stature.

Then I'd be willing to make the suggestion that Obama should be given a few points based on that. Cell phone voters, especially cell phone only voters(no landline), dramatically go to him.Arthur Dent wrote:Cell phones cannot be legally dialed with the automated equipment preferred by pollsters. I'm still fairly confident that Obama will will fairly easily, unless there's a major Gaffe by him at the debates (like if he shows up wearing lipstick and a turban).PujolJunkie wrote:Then I'd be willing to make the suggestion that Obama should be given a few points based on that. I just don't necessarily buy into the polls. I think the states that Obama loses, he'll lose BIG, but I think the electorates will be pretty heavily in his favor.
