According to the letter of the current 'tuck rule' if a Quarterback goes in to the throwing motion and brings the ball down as long as he doesn't tuck it against his body it's still an incompletion. I fail to see why you're so upset the Ref made the right call in the framework of NFL rules.
The point still remains: a better team wouldn't have scored only 3 points the first 3 quarters. You can't call the entire Playoffs 'illegitimate' because of one bad call in the Second Round Game.
Sure you can. The team that fumbled the ball away and lost the game with less than two minutes to play was allowed to keep the ball and eventually score to tie the game and win. How does that make the playoffs legitimate? It's all in the past now, but Tagliabue's paper champions got theirs against Denver four years later and Patriots fans are probably STILL whining how they were jobbed.
The ball was on the raiders 48 yard line, in the snow with 1:43 left. That means after the replay it's Second and long and something like a 70 yard field go. Seems like they still needed to go 30 yds to
tie the game. The Raiders could have stopped them easily, but they didn't. They could have won in OT but they didn't.The Pats still then had to beat the Steelers on the road and the Rams in the bowl.
