Has he? 6-6 last year, 6-5 in '05, 4-7 in '04, 6-7 in '03, 2-10 in '02....

Actually, I guess he has. He's been better there than I thought.

Mangino's and Pinkel's success this year maybe lend credit to the notion that D-1 programs shouldn't automatically fire their coach if things don't work out right away. The three most successful programs in the Big XII right now have the three most tenured coaches.

And of course, this year, if you don't count the games they played against 5A high school football they are 3-0. So definitely some marked improvement.

Frankly, I was shocked to find that Kirkwood was not scheduled.

"First Take" was profiling one of Kansas' corners - Talib Kwaeli or whatever - and how he is a "shut down" corner. Yeah, well let's see him shut down Tee Rucker, Chase Coffman, Will Franklin, Justin Gage and Jeremy Maclin.

They were, but then Kirkwood had a chance to put Parkway West on their schedule with a home and home so they bumped the trip to Lawrence.

Talib is actually a really good corner. On the other hand, one of the defining moments of last year's Mizzou/kU game was Jared Perry burning Talib for a 75 yard score. Perry currently sits about 5th on the Mizzou WR depth chart, 7th if you want to include Rucker and Coffman. Furthermore, Tyrone Wheatley of Colorado was supposed to take away whoever he wanted after picking off Harrell(who is terrible, and a crybaby) a bunch of times and limiting Crabtree. Two fly patterns from Will Franklin later, he had given up 110 yards.

And I guess I'll take the time to elaborate why I'm not overly worried about the game in Kansas City. Mizzou doesn't have problems scoring points. They haven't been held under 30 all year, despite playing games away from home against the likes of OU(8th in opposition scoring) and Illinois(21st). Their defense has improved as the season has gone on, as evidenced by holding Texas Tech to 10 points and CU to 10 in Boulder. To contrast, the Kansas offense has really slowed when playing defenses that are above a junior high level(read: not their non-con or Nebraska, lol Nebraska). They've averaged about 23 ppg against Colorado, K-State, and aTm, and that's not going to get it done against Mizzou.

I guess why I have a tinge of anxiety is because Missouri has never been in a position like this and I worry about them tightening up. It just seems that with all the weapons Missouri has that there is absolutely no way KU should be able to hold them down.

No doubt, it's a rivalry game and that alone means anything can happen. I'm definitely not worried from the standpoint of "KU is as good as we are" though. They're not, and we'll have to screw something up not to beat them.

That's pretty much how I feel about every "good" Missouri football team, but this team is different. If they were your typical "good" Missouri team, they would've been blown out of the water by Oklahoma, and they certainly wouldn't have embarassed teams like Nebraska and Colorado the way they did. They're for real.

I'm still somewhat nervous about Kansas, though. Anything can happen.
