Oh, the Rules. Got it. I was talking about the game of football and competition....and it doesn't really help a team like Mizzou (or Wisconsin -there, you happy ?) to have 5 weak game wins before heading into Georgia etc.
For schools like Mizzou- teams that aren't traditional powers- missing bowl games is a recipe for disaster. It's how a program crumbles. Having 5 "weak" wins (if B1G teams and strong mid-majors are weak, which is a pretty stupid premise to begin with) going into a brutal conference schedule is the difference between a sustainable recruiting base, and 15 years or whatever without a bowl. No recruit looks at a program and says "Wow, you had balls and scheduled a brutal non-con! I'll TOTALLY come play for you, 4-8 coach!"
So great. They schedule Michigan, Clemson, and Stanford instead (or is Michigan too "weak"? I can't keep this straight). All of those 1 and 2 star recruits on the 2016 roster as a result of the 3-9 seasons are going to be completely ready to go get their ass handed to them by a massively superior Georgia or Florida. But Georgia and Florida sure will get Mizzou's best possible crappy, talentless effort.

I agree, it helps tread water as a program and occasionally get a player that goes by some initial moniker. Cool.

That's a hell of a lot better than drowning, which is what you're advocating. Great programs don't become great programs overnight. It takes several good years before they can take that next step. Losing a bunch of games to high-profile, top 25 teams is only going to set the program back several decades.

So you say a zippy set of new unis and great tutoring program aren't enough. The recruits also need the lure of a trip to Shreveport to seal the deal.

As a fan of an ACC school, I see no reason for an SEC team to schedule anything but cupcake out of conference opponents, at least not with the nature of the current college football landscape.

The mark of a good football program, ever-changing kick ass unis and a blowout win against SEMO.

You are arguing for a paradoxical situation...on one hand you want Missouri to play the top teams from the other BCS conferences...which would be a step down for them.

Let me ask you guys - how good do you think Mizzou is this year?
