Re: PRO wrestling thread
My wife and I went to a little Mexican joint for Valentines day, and they had wrestling on TV. It was 4:00, the place was empty except for a couple of Mexican guys at the bar and the cook. Apparently they were fans. I have heard that in Mexico it's still a big deal, and that they actually take it to another level.
I remember in HS we had a pro wrestling match, and they used our baseball locker. We had an away game that night and got back about 8:00, all these wrestling dudes in the locker room. Kind of intimidating. They were nice guys though, you could see them talking before they went out to fight fine tuning the moves etc...

Re: PRO wrestling thread
Jim, pro wrestling probably isn't as big as it was a decade or so ago in Mexico (and it was insanely popular for decades before that) but it's still huge. Santo is something of a folk hero there, still, 30 years after his death. AAA is still doing pretty well, I guess.
A large group of Mexican wrestlers did a week of shows over here in London a few years ago, so I got to see Santo's son (El Hijo Del Santo) and a bunch of others. My memory of it is "hey! Frozen margaritas £1!", the odd random bit and then waking up the next morning feeling like garbage.

In this instance, I mean live as in I watched it on PPV as it was happening. It's one of the few matches where I really didn't know who was going to win.Jocephus wrote:did you do all the pre-show activities...or, the convention type stuff? oh, HOF? i've never been to a show, taped, live, house show, raw, ppv, etc...
I've been to about a handful of live events in my life, including two PPVs (Survivor Series in STL the year after the Montreal Screwjob and and Judgement Day in Omaha about six or seven years ago). I'd recommend going to a PPV if you ever get the chance (or wait until the brand gets better than it is right now, then go). Better matches, less filler than you find on RAW. I'm hoping one year I get the chance to go to a Royal Rumble or Mania. I wouldn't bother with going to RAW or Smackdown or anything like that because I don't find it that much better than the TV experience, jmo.
I remember when I was a kid my parents didn't want to shell out the money for PPVs, but QVC (yes, that QVC) would always sell wrestling merchandise right after the show was done and spoil who won. I used to switch over to that so I'd be in the loop for school on Monday.
