As far as why they struggled, it's entirely the offense. Running backs are hurt, offensive line is inconsistent, Mauk is Mauk, and the receivers are terrible.

LSU flipping the ball instead of handing it off is awesome. Almost makes me want to root for them.

I'm not an expert on the situation, but I think the problem was it was extremely short notice(because of the SEC move), so the options were limited.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:They didn't want to just pay some team to come in and play them like every other team does? Yes. his dad was his high school coach. I am the same age as Matty Mauk and he grew up about 20 minutes away me in northwest Ohio. the kid was a stud basketball player as well.lukethedrifter wrote:Maty Mauk is so flawed. He really is. What freakin RH QB bails out to his left? Wasn't his dad a coach?

Re: RIP SLIDE Pickem Week 2
For a few years now LSU has been running a short yardage dive play where the QB just turns and pitches it straight back to the RB rather than meeting them with a handoff. I suppose it gets the ball there a little quicker and gives the RB more flexibility on which hole to hit, but no one else has copied it so it can't be that great. It probably increases the odds of a fumble at least a little bit and also eliminates the option of running a play action off of it.lukethedrifter wrote:?AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:LSU flipping the ball instead of handing it off is awesome. I guess that just goes to show how much things have changed. Back in the day we had all sorts of pitches. Usually on sweeps but not always.
I hadn't really noticed until you mentioned it.

Re: RIP SLIDE Pickem Week 2
Teams still run the toss sweep, although not as much as they used to. But on that play the RB is moving and it's the only way to get him the ball. LSU's play is odd because the RB stands still, catches the pitch, and then usually runs straight up the middle making you wonder why they even bothered. It doesn't have any obvious advantage, although I suppose the QB could also then be available to block the weak side DE.
