Every pitcher in baseball is in injury risk.

Again, the type of guy that you guys are looking for is............ Lance Lynn. He was one of those "rock solid" innings eaters, up until a month ago.

You just never know.

Also, the 1-2 year guy is almost certainly going to be an injury risk. Otherwise they wouldn't settle for 1-2 year deals.

The cards really [expletive] themselves by low-balling Price.
They didn't lowball Price. Red Sox just outbid them.

1 Waino
2 Cmart
3 Wacha
4 Jaime

5 Lee
6 Buerhle

7 Marco
8 Lyons
9 Cooney

Unless one of your top 4 guys is going to start the season on the shelf, I don't see signing both Lee and Buerhle. What would you do if they're all healthy and pitching well in spring training? You gonna tell Cliff Lee or Mark Buerhle they're going to the pen?
Jaime is always at least halfway on the shelf at any given moment.

Wanna bet that 1 of those 4 guys doesn't make it out of Spring Training healthy?
I wouldn't bet you $5 on that one. LOL... I hear ya... but the trick is getting both of them to sign before spring. Mo would have to know ahead of time that one of those 4 guys was going to be out to pull it off.

Bartolo Colon ladies and gentlemen. Combine him with Buerhle and you got 400 IP of rotation filler with a very low K rate, very low BB rate. Need to prioritize team defense but both are short term commitments and can help bridge the gap and provide payroll flexibility.

I sure hope "payroll flexibility" isn't atop a list of priorities.

He struck out 5.6 batters per 9 innings, that's awful--only Dickey, Pelfrey and Buehrle fanned fewer. 13.8% of the fly balls he allowed went over the fence for homers, only 8 guys had a worse rate than that. A guy who can't miss bats and who can't keep the ball in the park is a pretty unattractive option.
fWAR is going to rate Leake poorly because it is based on FIP rather than ERA. Also, Leake's xFIP is much closer to his ERA than his FIP.

Fangraphs glossary says this about the two:

● These factors make FIP a good middle-ground option. It strips away the impacts of defense and measures a pitcher’s skill, but it doesn’t merely regress away abnormal results. If a pitcher should have allowed 20 home runs (based on his regressed home run rate) but actually gave up 30 home runs, he was a less valuable pitcher to his team than a stat like SIERA or xFIP would have you believe. Those two stats are better at predicting the future, but FIP is better at capturing past value.

I like Fister on a 1 or 2 yr deal or a trade for Shields if he could be had without giving up a top 10 prospect.

Mo is looking to pull off the next Berkman, Beltran deal. I hope. Big results-short term.
