Huh. Got to imagine this increases the O's motivation to move Machado now -- they just don't have pieces to compete in the AL East and they lost a good trade chip that could have allowed them to partially restock for this year.MrCrowesGarden wrote:Zach Britton ruptured his Achilles and is out 6 months.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Nationals are in "serious discussions" with free agent Matt Adams.
Adams fits the Nationals' desire for a left-handed bench bat and backup first baseman -- very much in the Adam Lind mold. The 29-year-old batted .274/.319/.522 with 20 home runs and 65 RBI in 131 games this past season between the Braves and Cardinals and he especially excelled against right-handed pitching. It sounds like this could come together pretty quickly.

There is no discussion involving Matt Adams that can be classified as serious.Jocephus wrote:

MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports that the Indians have been "in contact" with free agent first baseman Yonder Alonso.
Bastian notes that Cleveland has also been linked to Logan Morrison and Matt Adams in the club's search for Carlos Santana's replacement. Alonso registered an impressive .866 OPS with 28 home runs in 142 games this past season between the Athletics and Mariners, earning his first career All-Star nod. The 30-year-old left-handed-hitter slashed .282/.383/.517 against right-handed pitchers.
