Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
Did you watch it? He didn't say it like it's normally said. There was a pause to allow the crowd to laugh, and they ate it up.
Like I said...he either meant it, or he's stupid. I'd like to think that he meant it, but I really hope he's just starting to make stupid mistakes. The second that Palin used lipstick in her speech, that line brought on a whole new meaning. As much as I hope he's just being stupid, I know that's not the case.
It's not like he can count on Biden to be the smart speaker. He's having his share of foot-in-mouth disease lately.
"Stand up Chuck." Forgiveable, but funny.

The image of putting lipstick on a pig is intended to be funny. That's the reason the expression has lasted. This other interpretation relies crowd mind reading and an imaginative interpretation of tiny speech details for partisan effect. But it doesn't matter that this is obviously phony. Most people aren't paying close attention, won't look at what Obama said themselves, and will just get a vague impression that Obama may have said something inappropriate. Further, the huge amount of time spent on this (including now by me) is time not spent discussing anything of consequence. Of course, that was exactly the point of manufacturing this "controversy".BW23 wrote:Did you watch it? He didn't say it like it's normally said. It would be nice if a McCain supporter would state that there is nothing to this. Fat Strat, if you're reading, I believe we can agree on this much.

isn't it the same with rudy and palin questioning obamas community service history (at the convention) and waiting for the crowd to laugh?BW23 wrote:Did you watch it? He didn't say it like it's normally said. There was a pause to allow the crowd to laugh, and they ate it up.

It doesn't bother me at all that he said it. I just think it was incredibly stupid...whatever the meaning was. That camp's had its share this week of stupid comments by both Obama and Biden.

Completely different. They are Republicans.Jocephus wrote:isn't it the same with rudy and palin questioning obamas community service history (at the convention) and waiting for the crowd to laugh?BW23 wrote:Did you watch it? No. Did they refer to Obama as a dirty animal?Jocephus wrote:isn't it the same with rudy and palin questioning obamas community service history (at the convention) and waiting for the crowd to laugh?BW23 wrote:Did you watch it? Like I said. I don't really care. It's both stupid and funny to me. And it's funny to see so many Dems in strict defense mode. I'm sure Biden is happy that little attention is being given to him every time he opens his mouth....whether it's implying the Palin's don't care about helping their infant daughter, telling a man in a wheelchair to stand up or saying that Hillary would have been a better choice for VP than him.
Maybe he should start reading political cartoons as well.
Good night boys.

well, she previously mentioned herself as a pit bull...a pig is actually a nice refernece...pigs dont attack people, they are clean and they provide sustenance.BW23 wrote:No. Did they refer to Obama as a dirty animal?Jocephus wrote:isn't it the same with rudy and palin questioning obamas community service history (at the convention) and waiting for the crowd to laugh?BW23 wrote:Did you watch it? and frankly, i really cant see a difference (in what you said about waiting for the audience to laugh) when rudy was CLEARLY guilty of it ..."community organizer?...heh...what?"...while palin gently dissed his community service record for a laugh
oh, the poor wounded republicans

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
He didn't even use her name. He was talking about McCain's economic policy and referred to it as putting lipstick on a pig. To assert that he was talking about Palin just because she said she was a pitbull with lipstick or something is absolutely preposterous. So does this now mean nobody can ever use the term "Lipstick on a pig" again just because it might insult Sarah Palin? This is ridiculous.BW23 wrote:If he didn't mean it he's stupid. As for the author of the political cartoons...yeah, he cited him AFTER the paper contacted them. Three times in four days. Tough getting new material I guess. I think it's funny...and I mean nothing partisan about that.
And I don't seem to recall any story about the paper contacting them. And okay, so, he used the line once, maybe twice after it was pointed out to him by a friend, realized that it was from a WaPo article and immediately started sourcing it. Are we done grasping at straws? Can we PLEASE talk issues now or is that sexist, too?
