You can't have ever watched the current Miami team play and make this statement. Also, you apparently think once a franchise wins a title no one new can ever come in and be the best player? Ok.

The team he went to wasn't any better than the Spurs, Lakers, Celtics, Thunder already were, and that's who he had to beat to get a ring. Any team he joined (Bulls, Heat, whoever) was going to be on that level because he's that damn good. The last team to win an NBA title without 3 all star caliber players is probably the 98 Bulls, so only sixteen years ago. Everyone is telling him he's a piece of [expletive] until he wins a ring. What was he supposed to do? Stay in Cleveland and never win a ring and then have the same people call him overrated?

Um...what? I've heard quite a few discussions about NBA championship teams with minimal star players and that's the first time I've ever heard any of MJ's Bulls teams mentioned in that light.

Jordan and Pippen were studs. You could maybe argue that Kukoc or Rodman qualify but those guys were just role players by that point. But if you insist, that means you have to go back even farther to find a team without three main guys.

The Spurs don't really have 3 all-stars.

I'm not sure that the Oklahoma City team or the Dallas team that won championships had 3 all-stars, either. The last few Lakers teams that won championships didn't have 3 all-stars, either. In fact, I think you have to go back a ways to find a team that DID have 3.

OKC had durant, westbrook and harden, now i think ibaka is the 3rd main guy...but i could be wrong

Yeah, when I said "alpha", I wasn't necessarily talking about who was the best player.

Miami has been Wade's team the entire time, in my opinion (I get that some of you disagree with me).


For instance, if the Cardinals had traded for Tulowitzki this past off-season, he'd be the best player on the team. I still think it would be Molina's team, though.

What LeBron was trying to build, and perhaps thought he had built ('not 7') goes beyond all these. Something closer to the Shaq/Kobe championship teams.

gotcha. i guess thats just interpretation. i could agree maybe lbj's first year down there it was still wades but it seems like its been "his" (LBJ) club for awhile now...that could be media influence, the "NBA style marketing" that we so often hear about in the baseball forum, or other factors though

Well, you're the same guy who thinks in a sport where five guys are on the court, a team can have a reigning four time league MVP and it's not his team. So I can't match those mental gymnastics.

The point is Lebron plus role players wasn't getting it done. Lebron plus one star plus role players probably wasn't getting it done. It takes three guys to win a title.

This year, it took the Spurs about 6 guys to win a title. I enjoyed it.

Again, just because Lebron is the best player on the team, that doesn't make it "his" team. See my Tulowitzki/Molina example.


I think we're off course here anyway. Lebron is a great, great player. No denying that. I think most people are going to appreciate the Spurs more, though.
