It seems like Steck would warrant a better job than SMS. And I'm surprised he would leave for that.

I agree on both statements.cardsfansince82 wrote:It seems like Steck would warrant a better job than SMS. And I'm surprised he would leave for that.
I noticed he was among the finalists for the Broyles Award (best assistant/coordinator in the country). Really, I wasn't paying attention but it is kind of a big deal down here, so I perked up when I heard his name. Anyway, from past experience, it seems like most of the nominees aren't long for their jobs as assistants and quickly move on. I would have thought he'd have been in consideration for bigger jobs though and wouldn't have left for a gig like SMS. Nothing against them, it's just...well, not that prestigious.

Part of me thinks that SMS is one of the only jobs he would want to take. Steckel had said publicly that he didn't want to be a head coach, and combined with his very no-nonsense attitude and the fact that he is now a head coach, I think that could probably be amended to him not wanting to be a D1 or power conference head coach. SMS gives him a chance to try to build a program, in territory he's very familiar with, but without a bunch of the pressures and hassles that D1 football affords. He takes a hefty pay cut to do so and he'll be working with a lower class of player, but again with his approach that's not as much a negative as it would be to others.

Barry Odom is coming back to Mizzou and will get the defensive coordinator position.

Two picks and a blown chance at an easy first down. Not good. Yeah the rest of the SEC also [expletive] the bed, but it would be nice to get a stop and turn this thing around.
