Re: The Video Game Thread
Witch 3 is the best game I've played this gen.
I purchased a switch to play mario. I tried using the standard controller and it was atrocious, so I ordered a pro controller. So annoying.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I still haven't picked up the new Mario. I may do that this weekend. For now I'm playing enough Stardew Valley that I don't need another game to distract me. I'm OK being behind the times when it comes to other games though. I'm not a trend setter by any means. Other than GTA games, I'm normally well behind the curve and will get into a game right about the time that nobody else plays it anymore.
I am finally hitting my stride in Stardew Valley though. I blew a TON of currency buying the ore to make sprinklers so I'm struggling a bit with money at the moment but it's worth it. I'm about to the point where I have a TON of crops and won't have to spend any time watering them before long. I have so many crops that I was basically spending 3/4 of every day watering and barely had time for anything else. I also finally got smart and stick to crops that will continue to grow after the first harvest so that I only have to plant once a season. Now I just have to harvest every few days and I can concentrate on quests and other things like getting off the ground with farm animals and such.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I purchased a switch mostly to play Mario Odyssey. Speaking as a person who's all time favorite game is mario 64, Odyssey is 64's true successor. I'm 2/3 of the way through Odyssey and I'm comfortable saying the game will rank as one of the greatest games ever made. It's a masterclass in game design and a complete delight to play. When it's all over I'm sure I'll rank Odyssey in my top 5 favorite games ever. Maybe higher. I'm really looking forward to the post ending content.

That's what I'm hoping for out of Odyssey. I didn't play a ton of Mario 64 due to other things regarding life in general at the time (school, full time job, social life) but did really enjoy the game. Golden Eye 007 and Madden were the two games that I played more than anything on Nintendo 64 but I had a roommate and between the two of us friends were always over so we could play those while drinking. Mario 64 wasn't really a drinking with friends game for guys in their early 20s.

Mario is downloading to my Switch as I type this with one minute remaining. I'm going to have to sneak away from my desk in a bit to play. I normally just eat lunch at my desk but not today. I will take an actual lunch break and go play Mario.

Don't rush it. The game is fine wine.
FWIW, when I first got my switch I quickly realized I hated the standard controller, so I purchased the pro. I also always play mario docked on my TV. I'm curious how you'll feel playing it differently.

I still play 98% of the time in handheld mode. I rarely play anything docked but that will change this weekend with Mario I'm sure.
I just messed around for a couple of minutes and already died once. I'm the best gamer ever! After pulling the lever to head on over to the tower or whatever... I immediately started trying different jump combinations and jumped right over the edge to an untimely death before anything had even tried to hurt me. Oops.

I'll be picking up the Mario for the kiddos (and me) for Christmas.

Re: The Video Game Thread
I have three more reports to finish and then just have to merge 23 files down into about 8ish... and then I'm heading home to play Mario. I don't care what time it is, I'm leaving work the second I get this junk done and not even going to bother telling anybody.
They're all an hour ahead in Boston and likely packing it up themselves at this time anyway.

Re: The Video Game Thread
zelda does look amazing but it wouldn't be the game that made me buy the console. mario would be. that said, i can't afford a new one nor do i need the additional distraction. as fun as it does look.
