Will you guys keep playing shooter games as VR makes it more and more real? Honestly curious.

I’ve been reading/listening to some interesting stuff on VR and a lot of it’s not good.

i personally have no interest in VR. i've never actually used one either.

i've also noticed my interest gaming has dropped sharply this year, i think this xbox one will be the last console i end up owning. the switch to "games as a service" is unappealing to me and thats the direction things seem to be going.

Shooters with VR is barf city. The sensation of your eyes processing body movement while stationary isn't great and requires small doses. There are some ways to minimize discomfort, but currently none of the solutions are great.

FWIW, I'm a I'm a fan of VR and I have the playstation version, but in the past year I've tempered my VR expectations quite a bit, particularly in the 1-5 years timeframe. There are inherent limitations (like discomfort) to VR that may or not be solved. At the very least, I think more experiences need to be tailored to VR as opposed to retrofitting current popular genres like first person shooter games. Right now the VR market is a bit of a chicken and egg thing. We need more VR development, but it won't happen until more VR units are sold.

As for the violent reality concerns - I think (hope) something can be too real to be enjoyable.

As an aside, I think augmented reality could be the real game changer to society as a whole. It could be up there with automated vehicles in terms of a future efficiency boom.

I'd be curious to read any interesting VR articles you might have.

Last gen is arguably the GOAT console gen. This console generation has been pretty mediocre.

Augmented reality are systems where you see the real world overlayed with digital images and audio. Pokermon Go, if you remember that craze last year, is a basic example of AR.

Many companies, including microsoft, are working on glasses with AR. MS had a simple AR demo that made me realize its potential. They had users put on their AR device and presented them with a broken light switch. The user was instructed to call tech support which proceeded to project a live video of the support person on their wall. Next, the tech support person connected them to a support person in India that diagnosed the issue via the goggle camera. Finally, the Indian tech person walked the user through a fix by speaking and drawing instructional arrows and around the light switch. It was a simple demo, but amazing.

I'm playing Assassin's Creed Origins right now and I'm really enjoying it. It's the first AC game I've played since AC 2. I decided to give ACO a try because it's considered a series reboot with influences from Witcher 3. The game is set in Egypt with vast and gorgeous settings. Several times visually it's made my jaw drop. ACO also features good combat and an above average main story which I think other AC games struggled with. The game also introduces a mechanic with a bird you control that I think is quite brilliant and fun. My only real compliant is the side quests can be pretty bland when you compare it to Witcher 3 which is the GOAT of side quests. However, compared to other open world games the I think the side quests are above average.

If you're looking for a top tier open world game Assassin's Creed Origins is a great choice even if you're not really interested in previous AC games.
