I don't like losing Sunny. He's a big part of the heavy game the Blues can bring in the playoffs to potentially neutralize a team like Colorado.
I would have liked getting Leddy about 5 years ago. Now? Not so much.
I give this move a D-. I would have rather given up a 5th round pick or something for Chara, and kept Sunny.

I know Justin Braun is a RHD and we were looking for a LHD, but IMO he is better than Leddy at this point and only went for a 3rd round pick (nothing else)
of course older, but both are FA after this year so that doesn't really matter

I'm not sure I care about anything we gave up outside of the 2nd. Sundqvist is injured a lot and probably the most expendable member of our forward group at his cap hit. I don't think Walman will ever be more than an extra defender at the NHL level either. The big issue is those pieces all had positive/neutral value and we traded them for a guy that should have essentially neutral value (at best) even with 50% being retained.
This doesn't add much to the current team at all. We needed a defensively responsible top 4 LHD and while he MAY be better than Scandella overall it's not by enough to move the needle for the value loss in this trade. This is DA's worst trade in years and maybe his worst trade where he wasn't selling (Oshie/Shattenkirk)
I just hope he doesn't make this worse by re-signing Leddy.

To me the worst part is, is scandella is still here. Teams were DESPERATE for D, and you couldn’t even get a pick if we retain salary?
So now we have an extra defenseman since Walman had been scratched recently (even though he should have been starting over scandella)
So that means CP, krug, Faulk, leddy are locks…so we have bortuzzo, scandella, mikkola to choose from.
Something tells me because of that contract, scandella will be in there, and a better defenseman in bortuzzo and mikkola will be scratched

This doesn't really make me happy.

Last night may have been the worst I've seen the Blues play in many years, particularly in the 1st period. Against one of the worst teams in the league, at home, we couldn't make clean zone entries or sustain any sort of puck possession while allowing multiple odd-man breaks. Just awful.
They have about 1 month to turn things around. If they play like they have over the last month, they'll get bounced in the 1st round in 5 games. They don't look anything like the team we saw during most of the winter.

Re: St Louis Blues 2021-22 offseason and season
So the Blues are now rolling...sorta. 11-0-1 over their last 12, which is fantastic. Offense is rolling pretty well now, however the defensive play is still leaving a lot to be desired. Minnesota's comeback to tie on Saturday came on a couple fluke-ish goals, however they had a lot of other good scoring opportunities thanks to some defensive lapses and bad turnovers.
Hopefully they can out-pace the Wild through the end of the season and lock up home ice in the first round. Wild will be a tough matchup, though the Blues have done well against them this year. Avs will of course be a huge obstacle in Round 2.

Re: St Louis Blues 2021-22 offseason and season
I've really enjoyed the offense this season. The team has been fun to watch and fun to follow. I know the team isn't likely to beat Colorado or one of the half dozen powerhouse teams in the East, but it's been a fun ride and it's great to see a 100+ point team with a chance to win the stanley cup and continue the teams run of competitive play.
I'm just enjoying the ride. This core won its cup, the rest is just gravy.
