I still don't know why people are getting so emotionally involved in this whole thing.
The reason isn't that people are emotionally invested in this Te'o thing. The issue is that people are emotionally invested in college football. This Te'o incident is just the latest one of many that have exposed college football as a farce. People generally don't like learning that their favorite hobby is a farce.
There isn't a bigger farce out there than the "student athlete" (I realize I'm painting with a broad brush there...some kids really take advantage of college scholarships)...can't wait to see the fallout when Saban/Meyer/Kelly finally get pinched.
In many of the lesser sports, I think most really are student athletes. I've taught soccer, volleyball, baseball, swimming, and track athletes, and even cheerleaders, and all were really smart and dedicated. But I've never taught a basketball in 19 years at the university, and only two football players--both redshirt freshmen who would have done well in any class. It's like they quarantine the rest.

The vast majority of student athletes won't make a living from their sport and treat college accordingly. Then there are those that are going to make millions in the NBA or NFL after college who don't really need to attend class though they should. And, then there are the likely many more of those who think they will make millions after college in the NBA or NFL and don't think they need to attend class, but the reality is they won't and they do.

(Oh and the 30 for 30 series).
I stopped watching about 3 years ago. Problem is, it is nearly impossible to follow sports and not have some intersection with the network. Maybe that's part of the reason I get so worked up when stuff like this pops up...in between I forget how bad they have become and these stories remind me.
I don't have espn. It's not too hard. Also the website and the channel are much different. I think the website is fine, though it has a few bad columnists.

Yeah. I got through the college football season without cable. If I can do that, then there's never a time I'll need it. Also...fwiw, last year it was possible to get sunday night baseball games online at espn3.com I don't know if that will still be the case this year, however.

It's not so much that they will make millions in the NBA or NFL...the universities don't care about that. What they care about is that those athletes are making the universities millions of dollars right now.

I don't know how anyone could possibly have a problem with ESPN:
(Also, I've made a significant discovery, visual ipecac).
