I don't envision a doomsday scenario where there is a run on grocery stores and such, but I do think there is a larger economic depression that certainly must be coming. Stocks are way overvalued. Housing market is way overvalued. The vast majority of people's net worth is tied to their 401(k) (stock market) and home value. If both of those see a huge correction at once, in the midst of boomers having recently retired and Gen X's starting to retire, it could get really rough.

Based upon what you said, if a collapse of both the stock and housing markets happen at once (which would likely result in massive job loss) it may not result in a run on grocery stores, but more along the lines of people won’t even be able to afford food period.

And if things like that start to happen, it might lead to a “doomsday” like scenario. Starving people get restless, fast.

And if we think the government has some sort of plan in the event of this, we’re dreaming. People will be on their own, and that will lead to some chaotic times.

We're headed for a stagflation situation. We're already in negative GDP growth. The tariffs and Trump's demands for interest rate cuts will result in inflation to boot. Manufacturing and agriculture are getting hit by the 1-2 punch of tariffs and deportations of labor. International tourism is dead because who really wants to come here for the chance of being detained or worse if they don't like a tweet you did once. And in the long term, we're driving away the actual secret sauce to 21st century American success, which is that the smartest people in the world want(ed) to come here for school or to start companies.

Popeye's correct. We're either in or soon will be in a severe recession or something worse. All self inflicted. I don't think we'll be eating our pets, but a lot of us will lose our jobs, homes, and savings.

Just divest from your traditional, US-centric portfolios and invest in China a bunch. Or just don't save money. Buy a bunch of stuff. yolo and [expletive]

I am leaning more and more towards YOLOing on a Porsche 911 or something stupid like that. lol Really does seem like it's all going to crash down.

As someone with agricultural and hunting knowledge, you should absolutely buy a Porsche. You’re already well prepared for the fall of society/the future.

I'm firmly in the YOLO camp, and of course fully endorse purchasing a 911. I don't exactly want to keep living in a society where I have to guard my stash of food against the roaming hordes. Eff that.

We're having a laugh here, but honestly, I did purchase a sick e-bike last week instead of a couple of index funds with this in mind. Years of fun now vs additional security later was definitely more prominent in my thinking than usual. I'm not about to go full yolo with my money, but I'm doing some light yolo'ing.

I'm in favor of part time YOLO'ing. Having money invested for the future/retirement is great, but it will also suck to have a bunch of money at 70+ but your body isn't capable of enjoying all that money.

Plus you could be in a car crash or get cancer tomorrow. Life's a [expletive] and then you die, that's why we YOLO, 'cause you never know when you're gonna go.
