I have a theory on calling time outs to freeze the kicker ... I say NEVER call them. And you can probably find where I gave this theory on here, so it's not knee jerk to what happened yesterday. Here is why...

I think what you do when you call timeout is you remove the *threat* of a timeout during the kick. When a kicker lines up, it's possible that a thought creeps into his head ... "Are they going to call time to freeze me?". Let that thought sit, let it be in his head when the ball is snapped. By calling timeout, you've removed that. He *knows* the next play will go through to completion.

I don't buy that freezing a kicker does anything, if there is any mental games to be gained it's by having the threat of stopping play at the last minute (but not actually doing it).

I agree with Woody - couldn't understand why they took a knee with 30 seconds left.

Yeah, it's a fair question. Especially after the Falcons were put in exactly the same position, and won their game with a field goal.

Part of me wonders if Manning was playing hurt. He didn't throw a single ball downfield, and his short and mid-range throws were off, too. He just didn't look like himself. Of course, it may have been the cold weather....... but that still doesn't explain why he didn't throw any balls farther than 15 yards downfield.

And it seems the NFL defenses have yet to adapt to new breed of running QBs. Watched packer 49er game with my cheesehead family (via skype ) - boy were they howling at Dom Capers. Their D had no answers.

I guess a cheater and a dick is technically a better person than one involved in a homicide case, but when this is all we have to root for in one of the two conferences, it makes for a depressing remaining couple of weeks of football.

Every coach in the NFL is a cheater and a dick. These are not nice normal people. They are spiteful arrogant egotistical weirdos.
