ML record is six GS. Mattingly, I think.
Franklin was probably already warmed up and ready to come into the game when Albert hit the GS; I guess they didn't want to waste a good warmup (Herzog talks about this sort of thing in his 1999 book).
And, you're right, he didn't pitch on Sunday so he's had two days off already and will have an off-day on Thursday as well - so he may as well get in there.
My only concern is that it can occasionally be hard for a closer to pitch with a big lead. Never quite understood that - an inning's an inning - but there seems to be something to the psychological factor.

IIRC, doesn't Mattingly hold the MLB record with 6?Cronos69 wrote:5 grand slams in a season ties him with Ernie Banks for the NL record. Plenty of time left to break it, too. Stick it to the Cubs any way we can.
By the way, Pujols's slam crashed my computer! Had to rebbot, which was why I was gone a bit.
Winnar!

WINNAH
New nominee for game of the year.
Pujols-amazsome
Ludwick, Ankiel, Skip, Lugo were good.
Regression to the Regifter for Pineiro. Blows two separate leads but we bail him out.
Lot of heart shown to come back against Santana and KRod.

That is a game I thought the Cards couldn't possibly win, way to go guys to battle all the way back again and again and again. Pujols wakes up, Pineiro finally gets some run support even when it wasn't his night.
Fantastic win.
Fantastic win.
