They always have a chance to go to playoffs, so it's harder to justify costing a game by giving long leashes.

Realistically down the stretch once its clear that the Cardinals aren't going to make the playoffs which is now but when its 100 percent obvious then Luken Baker should be getting a lot of playing time at 1B. We need to know for next year if he can figure out hitting at the MLB level as if we should play him at all at 1B next year.

Agreed. Same with Saggese and Prieto. Gorman can chill out in AAA and regroup. Let's see who can cover the bench next year so we don't waste two [expletive] bench spots all year.

But we need grizzled sea salts who can tell yarns about the days of yore hunting the leviathans of the deep and singing many a sea shanty.

Fansided’s Robert Murray reports that the Dodgers designated OF Jason Heyward for assignment.
With Chris Taylor coming off the IL, the Dodgers needed to choose between Kevin Kiermaier and Heyward as their left-handed bat off the bench. Considering Kiermaier is an elite defender and Heyward was slashing .208/.289/.393 in 63 games, the choice between the two seemed easy on the field, but Heyward was well-respected in the clubhouse which made it a tough decision. Taylor himself has really struggled in 2024, but the Dodgers felt that his versatility helped the team going forward.

Montgomery blamed his former agent, Scott Boras, on Friday for “butchering” the offseason and failing to get a deal done with Boston in a timely manner.

“I had a Zoom call with (the Red Sox), that’s really all I know. It went good,” Montgomery told the Boston Herald’s Mac Cerullo ahead of the Red Sox’ series against the Diamondbacks this weekend at Fenway Park. “I don’t know, obviously Boras kind of butchered it, so I’m just trying to move on from the offseason and try to forget it.”

Montgomery fired Boras on April 11 and hired agents from Wasserman to represent him.

He's made 19 starts this year, so that's a vesting option of $22.5 million. He obviously won't start the rest of the year, because 23 starts would bump Montgomery's payday to $25 million. https://www.mlb.com/news/jordan-montgom ... 20million.

Tyler O'Neill injury update: Latest news on Boston Red Sox outfielder

O'Neill has missed time this season, his first in Boston, due to stitches in his head, a knee injury, a leg infection and now finger inflammation that led to the 29-year-old being scratched from Friday's lineup.

“Not ready for today," Cora said. "We’re shooting for tomorrow. Feeling better. He’ll hit during the game to see how it goes but most likely he’ll play tomorrow.”
