I'm dissapointed in TLR, but he doesn't deserve to be fired. Everyone makes mistakes. I understand the DUI is a big mistake, but it's not worthy of a firing.
He should take what the law throws at him, and what the press throws at him. I think that is plenty punishment, no need to fire him for it.
I don't think he'll be fired, but I do think he'll retire.

Although, he may stay...his transformation to Whitey is almost complete:

Now if we can get him to start hunting the animals instead of saving them...the hoosiers around here may start to love him.

Sad really, he's really given us some of the best baseball in years. I don't want to see him go, but I think there is a good chance that he might.

Just please don't say you are going into rehab...it's like the new hotness for players / celebs.

Good points TFG. I'm very interested to see what he has to say about this.

Seriously folks, .093 is not driving "drunk". It's driving buzzed, and I'm guessing 90%+ of this forum has driven a vehicle at this level or above, and haven't been caught. If he had 2-3 glasses of wine at a late dinner, he could have blown this. I'm also guessing that Whitey Herzog drove back from multiple fishing outings far more "drunk" than .093.

The reason for being "passed out" I'm personally guessing is an adverse reaction with some medication.

Fired? Retire? Come on. It's an honest mistake that I hope none of us on here ever have to go through.

True, I mean at least he didn't pull a Leonard Little (oh snap)....but then again TLR is under a different microscope than Little.

I'm guessing he's not coaching the game today...will Oquendo take over, Duncan, Marty Mason(arent they usually the one's that take over if TLR gets kicked out of games?)?

He screwed up. It's probably an embarassment. But in terms of this type of mistake, he's about as low down on the scale of screwing up that you can get and still be arrested. Retiring would do nothing to avoid embarassment or humiliation or any problems. In fact, it would probably make it worse. The criticism if he "runs away" like that will be far worse than if he faces the criticism and punishment. If he "takes it like a man" and serves his punishment, he will earn back some of the respect that I lost for him.

Exactly. .093 is nothing. It wasn't even a DUI until 4 years ago when the Federal Gov. threatened to cut the Highway Funding of any state that wouldn't lower the legal limit to .08. It used to be .10 or .12 almost everywhere, didn't it?
When the Gov. was foricing this on states there were state senators in Iowa pleading against it. I think Iowa was the last state to fall in line. The money talks.
So, .093 isn't a travesty and Tony should be forgiven for a small mishap.

I really do think it's a matter of scale. If LaRussa was driving recklessly and blew a 0.20, that's one thing. But he blew a 0.093. That's not even considered a DUI in many states (who are still at 0.10 or above). How can he look his players in the eye? His players probably drive home that bad or worse every weekend. They just don't get caught.

There have been many public figures who have had DUI's, and very few lose their jobs over it. Bob Huggins comes to mind, but his was connected with being ripped and driving recklessly (I forget the exact amount, but I'm thinking it was near 0.30) PLUS years of shady recruiting and having thugs on the team.

Like I said, this could happen to any one of us who enjoy a couple drinks at a restaurant or bar now and then. It's a shame, but it does happen.
