I wonder if some of his success so far is from Looper fooling other teams by throwing stuff they don't expect him to throw, his new cutter, his slightly different delivery. Obviously the scouting report on the new Looper hasn't been filled out yet.
Seeing how he'll do when the temperature rises and when he pitches to a team again, especially a division team that might see him a couple of times, will be especially interesting. In the meanwhile, he can live on a wing and a prayer as much as he likes; the results so far have been superlative and far beyond what any of us could have expected.

70 pitches through 5 IP is not very much at all. At that pace, he doesn't reach 100 until the 8th inning.GatewaySnayke wrote:I'm still not sold on Looper.
Through five, he had already thrown 70 pitches, and had 41-29 strikes/balls. I think if Looper is going to be effective in the sixth and seventh inning, he has to keep his pitch count down -- way down. I'm interested in seeing what happens when he's pitching with the weather above 40 degrees.
I can't believe we're actually criticizing Looper's 2-hit 7 shutout innings because they weren't efficient enough.

I think we're looking for some piece of information that would give some indication from his performance so far that, to borrow from Denny Green, he is who we thought he was. Because otherwise, we'll all have to deal with the disconcerting fact that we were wrong when we said he couldn't be a decent starter. And nobody wants to do that.RC21 wrote:70 pitches through 5 IP is not very much at all. At that pace, he doesn't reach 100 until the 8th inning.GatewaySnayke wrote:I'm still not sold on Looper.
