If, for some reason, Molina had high trade value and we were sellers, I would definitely think about trading him.

Salary isn't all that high, though, relative to his talent level / the free agent market.

I don't know how anyone could say that minor league players (the good ones: Ramsus, Anderson, Garcia, Perez) aren't untouchable. Considering that the Cardinals have pulled themselves up from the dregs of player develpment to halfway respectable, I'd rather see them continue trending upwards rather than dealing anyone who could make a contribution.

One of the biggest reasons the Cardinals are in the jam that they are now is because they dealt guys like Coco Crisp and Daric Barton and Danny Haren. I'm not saying those trades shouldn't have happened. The Cardinals were trying to stack their roster back then and showed a willingness to add payroll.

Times have changed, and it's the reason they are currently running guys like Preston Taguchimacher out there. The guys they currently have starting are bench players, yet they are miscast as starters because there is no one better to take over when injury hits.

I should've figured that Izzy had a NTC. That comes with mixed feelings. On one hand, I think a team that needs a closer at the deadline might part with some valuable pieces, but I just don't think he would waive his NTC. But I still like Isringhausen, and I do enjoy it when the Cardinals win, and he gives them the best chance to win at the end of the game.

Bingo, bango. A pitcher who is 'only' making $65 million over the next five years and is playing at a high level during a time when guys like Theodore Roosevelt are getting paid $40 million isn't a burden. The idea of selling isn't to just start dumping everything that has worth like it's the Florida Marlins. You can't just completely strip your team down to nothing and devoid them of talent. DeWitt would be crucified, LaRuncan would leave town and Busch III would be half-empty.

About minor leaguers being "untouchable", I have mixed feelings.

On one hand, I want to get our team younger, using our own talent.

But on the other hand, if you can get proven young major league talent for a talented prospect or two, I would do it.

So I would rather not trade away good prospects, but if it's for young MLB talent, I'd think about it.

There aren't too many guys like that floating around -- the Miguel Cabrera types who are not far from free agency and might have to be traded because their contract demands couldn't be met.

Exactly. Which is why I said I have mixed feelings. I would give up any of our prospects to get Miguel Cabrera. But that doesn't mean I'd give up any of our prospects for just any good young player. It just depends on the situation.

John Gall and J-Rod for Miggy. Then we can move Schumaker and get Harden. Slot Miggy in Left, Duncan/Juan in right.

Seriously though, I agree. No prospect is a sure thing. Look at Josh Hamilton or Rick Ankiel. I'd give up a package with Rasmus or Anderson, a decent Pitching Prospect, and a throw in for one of the best young hitters in baseball. And I wouldn't look back.
