XM is hurting real bad to begin with - even before the Opie and Anthony drama, they already anticipated an operating loss of just under $200 million for 2007. They actually gained subscribers this last quarter and still lost money. The merger is about their only hope of survival.lazypenguin wrote:Either way, XM is losing a ton of money by doing this. Opie and Anthony is one of their biggest pulls. If the merger doesn't go through, they are going to be hurting bad.
Opie and Anthony suspended from XM!

If they were smart they went w/ Sirius. XM is about done for. I'm not sure though.docellis wrote:So Stern is Sirius - who are Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey signed with?Sirius and XM have both used star power to attract consumers. Howard Stern, Martha Stewart, and Oprah Winfrey are among the stars that have signed contracts with one of the two companies.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's public airways. If you get XM you can block this channel along with others. XM DOES depend on their subcribers. It's driven by subscribers.jimedmondsfan wrote:Vulgarity is not the same as obscenity. Making jokes about people being raped is not funny and should not be allowed on the public airways (even if you pay for the privilege).stlmark wrote:See, the thing is, that it's XM radio where you can pretty much say what they want. One thing that I think needs to be brought up here is that its a comedy show purely for your entertainment. They really don't mean a majority of the things that they say. They are playing characters! This isn't normal radio, it's a paid subscription. I pay for the privilige to hear vulgarity.![]()

Trust me docellis, O and A ARE the biggest thing on XM.docellis wrote:I am not saying this isn't true - but where are you finding these statistics (re: Opie and Anthony being their biggest revenue generators)?lazypenguin wrote:Either way, XM is losing a ton of money by doing this. Also, if they merge, wouldn't Stern be the biggest pull? (I assume so because he makes so much money)

Oprah is on XM and I think Martha is on Sirius.

And why XM will do anything to make sure the merger takes place.stlmark wrote:I guess that's why they are merging.maddash wrote:Which is pretty bad - both companies have yet to turn a profit.stlmark wrote: XM is doing as well as Sirius.
.
Of course, it's a growing industry so anything could happen. But neither company is doing well right now.
