Why stop at 16, why not 32? Or 64? Where do you stop?
Adding 3 games on to an 18 year old kids plate is not responsible. They should go back to 10 regular season games if you ask me.
That's a slippery slope argument.
If it's too many games, then pare down to 1-2 non-conference game, and 8-9 conference matchups. Then up to 3 games in the playoffs (only for two teams--other teams would have 1-2 extra games). A lot of teams with conference championships play 13 games already.
And it's not like we don't have schedule flexibility. After this weekend, the college season basically dies until late December.

The extra games are irrelevant. High school teams can play upwards of 15 games a season. Under that bracket, LSU or Mizzou could play 17 games. If you can handle 15 games at age 15, you can handle 17 games at age 18.
HS teams should never be playing 15 games. Just because they play them doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do.

I think if CFB went with a playoff system similiar to the one in the article, it could take over the NFL as the top sport in America. The pageantry, emotion, and excitement all tops the NFL right now IMO. The only thing that it lacks is a legitimate championship.

Is America really ready to sit through 4+ hour games? College football are ridiculously long. I can't sit in front of a TV that long. NFL games are pushing it for me.

Well I do hate that the clock stops after every first down. Go to a running clock, add a playoff system, and then you've got the top sport.

I'm fine with 4 hour games during bowl (theoretical playoff) season. It's the holidays--what else do you have to do? Gives you more time to drink beer.

I've come to the conclusion that jim is a highly impatient fan. Nothing chaps jim's ass more than long games and "fire in the belly".

4+ hours is about the amount of time it took Jim to "get loose" before playing a baseball game. Jeez I hated playing catch with him!!!!!

They are ALL 4 hours. I went to a Notre Dame game and was shocked at the amount of down time. Much more noticeable at the game itself.
BTW - an NCAA Division 1AA or Division 3 game will run right at 3 hours. That is literally 1+ hours of absolutely nothingness.
mike - you just wanted to go in early and go hit on our scorekeeper.

There's tons of downtime when you attend an NFL game too. That's why I really don't enjoy watching football games live--I'd much rather do it on TV where there's replays, and cheap beer in the fridge a few steps away in my warm house.
