Re: The Wonders of Dubai
I read a book on Dubai before it became fashionable (and most of the current items were just building plans), and it was quite fascinating the amount of wealth in that place, with two almost distinguishable countries in one...lukethedrifter wrote:The engineering aspect is amazing but I can't help but believe these sort of incredibly excessive displays of conspicuous consumption aren't great for the world.
It would be nice- and a fantasy- if those in charge cared about the women of Dubai just a fraction as much.
Good article from last Sunday's NYT. link

Re: The Wonders of Dubai
That's pretty well put. These types of places (Dubai, Las Vegas, etc...) just aren't for me. I understand the attraction of a place like Vegas, but I don't gamble outside of a friendly card game and it bothers me to see nature rearranged so much. Green grass in places like Vegas just irks me off to no end.clement wrote:++Freed Roger wrote:hooray for Dubai! like Vegas, Disneyland, etc etc I'm glad to see another place to herd the cattle. And Dubai has taken it to an entirely new level.
