Fishing wire or bird spike strips

Portable stereo system or electronic bird distress call player.

Disturb the roosting birds. If vultures roost in trees on your property, go outdoors at dusk, walk to the trees and shake the stems to scare away the birds. Drum a large spoon onto the back of a pan as an alternative scare tactic. Frequently scaring the birds, when they are about to settle for the night, may stimulate them to roost elsewhere.

Trim and thin out trees around your home to make them less appealing to vultures. Remove the trees completely if desired, but keep in mind that if the trees are gone, vultures may decide to relocate to your rooftop.

Bury any carcasses your find on your property because these may attract vultures.

Extend fishing wire across areas where vultures roost. If vultures settle on the rooftop ledge of your home, stretch fishing wire approximately 8 inches above the ledge. Tie the wire tightly, so it won't move downward when the bird steps on it. The wire makes it impossible for the birds to land and settle on your rooftop. Use bird spike strips as an alternative.

Place reflective devices in areas vultures frequent. Hang foil strips from trees or from your rooftop, to deter vultures. When the sun hits the foil, the reflection it causes, scares away vultures. Use string to hang up CD's as an alternative reflective device.

Play distress calls from blackbirds, starlings and crows approximately half an hour before it gets dark. Use a portable stereo system or an electronic bird distress call player. Stop the distress calls once it is dark. The distress calls alarm vultures and scare them away.

Place motion-activated sprinklers in areas frequented by vultures. When birds get near the sprinklers, their movements sets them off, and the water chases the birds away. If vultures roost in your trees, install sprinklers in the trees. When the vultures get near the trees, the water chases them off.
