Re Jim: Good grief. But yeah, it sounds like a minor SLAP tear and a partial tear of the cuff, with swelling and fluid around. You also have some pinching in the upper front of the shoulder (this is the AC stuff) which might be related to the AC tear.

You could have a surgical cleanup to carve out some space in your front shoulder and clean up the soft tissue damage. This is largely what I had done, and the results were very good--though recovery took nearly 2 years. But it feels pretty good now.

I don't know what the degrees of SLAP tears are, but they told me it looked like a complete tear. I think that's the big problem actually. And this was in June, I played probably 30 games past that MRI so who knows what else is going on.

I don't know. Those magentic things seem like vodoo. I'm not saying they do/don't work, only that the science behind them is sketchy.

I've spoken with a doc in town about PRP and he swears by it. Says he has been using it on race horses for years and started using it on patients/himself/other doctors in his office in recent years. He guessed it was what Pujols did to get back to playing baseball so quickly last summer....at least some variation of it (injecting stem cells to the area to grow new cells quickly).

I may be stupid, but I buy into the science. They spin the blood to separate the different layers and take the stem cells/hormone rich areas and re-inject them back to the injured area. The stem cells and hormones repair/regrow tissue/bone/ligaments/cartilage/etc that is damaged. So....yeah, I'm gonna try it. Probably next week.

FWIW, I have a slap tear. A type II B slap tear I think is the way they described it.

Anyway, back to the procedure. The cost is $700. The timetable for return is 10-15 days and if it doesn't work, they'll do it again and again and again until it does. Pain relief is supposed to be immediate - 1 day. And within 3 weeks back to 100%. Sounds like a gamble that is at least worth taking. If nothing else, I'll be out $700. Surgery would likely cost $4K or so after all is said and done. And as you all know, the rehab is a year or so and out for at least 6 weeks right from the get go.
