I hope Swaggerty turns himself into a hitting prospect so I can make "swagger jackin'" jokes about home runs. Or masterbating.

I posted about Jenkins over in the "Peoria Chiefs" thread. I saw him pitch once this year. I believe he went 5 innings and gave up 2 or 3 runs. He managed to pitch out of jams, or it could have been worse. Last year he seemed to struggle pitching out of jams, which is why he had a 5.14 ERA. His ERA this year is 4.46, so not a ton better. He's thrown 40 1/3 innings, has 27 K's and 20 BB's. If you believe the radar gun, he could hit 93-94 MPH on his fastball, which is very good for the MWL (we see a lot of high 80s here). IMO his problems are that his fastball seems a bit straight to me and he seems to struggle to locate his offspeed pitches.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Swaggerty. Where is Swaggerty at? Didn't he have TJ surgery last year and his star lost a lot of shine? But, he should be pitching again...somewhere right? And was he projected to be a starter or reliever? Either way, he had good stuff, no? And, last I checked Jenkins had found a girl and God and seemed to have settled down. How's he pitching? Anyone seen either of these guys?

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Albuquerque Isotopes scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 13-10 over the Memphis Redbirds on Saturday night at Isotopes Park. The Redbirds committed five errors and matched a franchise record with 14 walks.
Both teams combined for 25 walks on the evening. The 14 walks matched Redbirds single-game record, previously set on July 11, 1999 vs. Vancouver. Maikel Cleto set a career-high with eight free passes, which also tied a Redbirds' single-game record, previously set by P.J. Walters on May 15, 2011 vs. Fresno. The last time Memphis committed five errors was June 22, 2007 at Round Rock.
Things got a little testy in the bottom of the fourth as Albuquerque plated four for an 8-2 advantage. Cleto began the inning by allowing the first three batters to reach on a single and two walks before being replaced by Jorge Rondon. Three pitches later, Moore got revenge and crushed a three-run homer to right-center.
After offering up a three-run homer, Rondon would hit Justin Sellers in the back to ignite the bench-clearing brawl and cause eight ejections from both teams, including both managers.

Jenkins seems to be developing really slowly. He's in his fourth pro season and he's only to A Ball with this being his second year at that level and him having double years in rookie ball. It doesn't seem like his ceiling is going to be very high.

Except he was drafted as an incredibly raw player that we knew would take lots of time to develop. Everyone and their mother knew he would be a slow mover through the system. He still has major upside as a #2 or better starter if he can put it all together.JoeMcKim wrote:Jenkins seems to be developing really slowly. I don't think his ceiling has changed. As time passes my hopes fade that he'll ever see it. But his velo hasn't dropped and he hasn't gotten injured...which would be two things I'd look for before lowering his upside.JoeMcKim wrote:Jenkins seems to be developing really slowly. Re: Miscellaneous Cardinals minor league notes
I'm just saying he should at least be at high A ball by now. He's in his 4th pro season and has an ERA over 5 at A Ball. I know he needs more time to develop but when the game of baseball doesn't come naturally to him at all how is he ever going to be a threat to get hitters out on an above average level at the mlb level?

His ceiling hasn't changed, but the chances of actually reaching it probably have.
