And what's the deal with Army not being good any more? They represent the best military in the known universe, they should be in the title hunt EVERY YEAR

Yes, because tradition isn't important in college football or anything, tradition isn't the only thing keeping college football from being an NFL minor league.Transmogrified Tiger wrote:And what's the deal with Army not being good any more? Listen, I'm as heartbroken about the Big 8 and SWC breaking up as anyone, but to me the real killer is that Penn State isn't independent any more. My grandparents were graduates and I just hate what this realignment has forced them to endure.

Why be heartbroken? Now they get to play Indiana.Transmogrified Tiger wrote:Listen, I'm as heartbroken about the Big 8 and SWC breaking up as anyone, but to me the real killer is that Penn State isn't independent any more. It pretty much all went to hell after Wash U abandoned the Missouri Valley Conference in 1947.

What is a more natural fit than Colorado and a conference with "Pacific" in its name?

ESPN rundown from last year of rivalries that have been wrecked.

Could also have mentioned Auburn-Tennessee, who only play sporadically now.

Well, yeah, of course it's Notre Dame. There's what, 2 or 3 schools that would actually dismiss players for academic fraud?

Re: 2014 College Football Thread
Talk of the 2012 season being vacated or some such. That's always struck me as one of the stupidest things about college sports--the idea that you can travel back in time and wipe out what happened. Michigan never made the Final Four; we have always been at war with Eurasia.
