Re: Rant: Apple Watch
at work I never wear a watch because I have time staring me in the face constantly on my PC, phone etc.
I only wear a watch for outdoors mainly due to the GPS - running hiking or camping. I may take one when I travel and have to catch planes.
Which all kind of goes contra to the typical old use of watches -where you would/could lose the watch for recreation and was a necessary for work/business.

I'm sure aftermarket bands are right around the corner.Popeye_Card wrote:I can justify spending $500 on a good looking watch. I can't justify spending $500 on a miniature iPhone, plus an additional $500 for a band to hold it on my arm, while in the end having something that doesn't look overly good--kinda dorky, in fact.
The convenience was intriguing. $1000 can buy me a lot more than that convenience though.

Re: Rant: Apple Watch
I have Twitter, Facebook, Instagram...all that crap, and in a couple I have multiple accounts due to things I'm involved in. I have all push notifications on my phone turned off on all my accounts. My phone never buzzes unless it is a phone call or a text message. Then I just go into each one periodically and get my notifications when I feel like it. I do it about once a day with the active accounts, maybe every few days with the less active ones. It's only ever been a problem 1 time, when someone invited me to some event on Facebook that I missed.
I can't fathom a reason to wear one of these watches. I got rid of my old watch once I started carrying around a phone. I hated wearing a watch.

A watch is about the only piece of jewelry that I wear. I wear my watch because I like looking at it, I'm certainly aware that I can get the time in other ways but I like watches. I even have a pocket watch that I have to wind - 2 actually but one doesn't work very well because it's about 100 years old. I never wear them, but I like winding them and looking and hearing them tick.

I can't wait to see a room full of people looking at their wrists. It'll be like everyone suddenly became very interested in what time it was, and then froze in place.

I pictured you with a mess of gold chains and your shell necklace from Cancun on your neck, not to mention the pinky rings.jim wrote:A watch is about the only piece of jewelry that I wear. .

Hah. I have a $15 wedding silver ring I bought at an arts and crafts show. I lost my first one because it was too big and bulky and I kept taking it off. Another one I got was in my car one summer day and it melted - really cheap 10k deal. I like the $20 rings because they are light and I can buy another if I lose it.Freed Roger wrote:I pictured you with a mess of gold chains and your shell necklace from Cancun on your neck, not to mention the pinky rings.jim wrote:A watch is about the only piece of jewelry that I wear. .

True, but the crazy expensive watches tend to hold their value remarkably well, as long as they're looked after. The iWatch will, like all other Apple merch, be essentially worthless in a few years.go birds wrote:lots of people spend way more than $1000 on watches that do a lot less
