Does Hosmer to STL make any sense to you at all?

None.

If you were John Mozeliak, who would you sign/trade for to upgrade the team. I keep hearing Arrieta/Moustakas/Hosmer. I'm not sure they really need a CI, and Arrieta has come down from his Cy Young days. Personally I'd like to see a trade of Gyorko or Carpenter if you're going to trade for a CI and sign Darvish and one more bullpen piece.

If they just want to spend money, sign Lorenzo Cain.
If they want to do more talent-package trades, then just keep pestering TOR about Donaldson until they give in,.

So Mo is going to be known as the Annoying Orange in Toronto?

Well let's say his bat is average. Decent OBP (.350-ish), and 20-25 HR power. That's not very good production from a 1B if you are getting absolutely nothing else. Marp gives us better OBP and similar power. But there's a reason why we would want to upgrade over him at 1B, and use his defensive flexibility to shift him elsewhere in the field.

Hosmer is a 1B only, in a league without a DH. Having him PLUS Carpenter on the roster gives you two guys who's bats are decent, but not great for the positions they play. Meanwhile we are pretty pot committed at all of the lower rungs of the defensive ladder (1B, LF, RF, 3B). We're also committed at C. Signing a Hosmer long-term leaves you only the higher defensive positions (2B, SS, CF) to try to improve the offense. That's a tough challenge. Unless you really want to trade Carpenter. Which then I would say, why in the world would you sign Hosmer when you have a better and cheaper (though older) version of Hosmer in Carpenter?

Why on earth would we sign Lorenzo Cain? Does Cameron even know who is on the Cardinals' roster?

Eric Hosmer hasn’t been better than Matt Carpenter to this point, but there’s a real chance he’ll be better than Marp from here on out.

There's also a real chance he'll be sub replacement level while making 20+ mil.

I was just joking about your choice of words- that Hosmer won't give you a whole lot of outs. I would think he'll give you all kinds of outs throughout the year.
