Blues looked like a college team taking on a NHL squad. Completely intimidated into making poor plays all night. If it weren't for Binner and a ton of fortunate bounces off the posts, the score should have been more like 7-1.

Going to have to be a lot better in game 2, or this series is over before it even started.

Binnington with one of the best goaltending performances I’ve ever seen. Of course, the 4 or 5 posts/crossbars helped. Will be a short series if they don’t look like a completely different team tomorrow.

I was driving home from Columbia for the first and second period. Our radio guys made a big point about how in the second, when the teams have their goalie on the opposite end from their bench and the line changes are farther away, Colorado really loved to take advantage of that combined with the lower oxygen concentration and pin teams in and get them exhausted. That's exactly what happened. And it seemed like they did it again in OT as well. We need to figure out how not to succumb to that somehow.

It wasn’t just the long change though, or even apparent exhaustion. Blues were playing extremely tentatively, and making simply bad plays exiting their own zone and in the neutral zone, leading to what felt like hundreds of turnovers. Colorado had about 30 odd-man rushes, and I honestly cannot recall a single one from the Blues.

They looked intimidated - afraid of Colorado’s skill, freaked out about the elevation, shell-shocked from last year’s sweep - not sure why, but other than Binner they did not bring the playoff veteran swagger they had against Minnesota in the final games.

Maybe recency bias, but I don't remember a team that seems so much better than everyone else as the Avalanche right now. Maybe the goaltending isn't up there, but everything else seems unstoppable when I watch them. How they lose at all is beyond me.

Even Detroit when they were beating the Blues every year were a pretty even matchup.

Anyway, to get outplayed as bad as they did and only lose by 1 in OT gives me hope for a non-sweep at least.

Looking MUCH better tonight. Which means they’ll probably lose 5-0, but they are playing the right game.
