It is amazing how much better snow is handled in Boston compared to St. Louis. I flew out Sunday just as the first flakes were falling in STL but I've heard the panic and what a mess things are there. The snow finally started here in Boston this morning and while a lot of people are working from home where allowed, there are still a bunch of people in the office and the roads are in great shape. There are plows EVERYWHERE. I saw probably 10 plows pass by between waiting for the shuttle to the office and arriving at the office this morning. The office is less than a mile from the hotel.

Yesterday about 10:30am they shut down all of our facilities in St. Louis and sent everybody home. It didn't impact me since I'm salary but I did appreciate the fact that the company did pay all hourly employees for the full day even though they got sent home.

St. Louis averages 16" of snow per year. Boston averages 48. Common sense that they would be much more experienced with handling it and devote much more money/resources to it.

St louis region institutions have developed a strategy for any kind of snow - cancel and close everything.

Not sure how if this can be avoided, but major roads like Brentwood Hanley Manchester just dont hold up thru the winter. Not sure if its the incessant plowing or maybe just cheap lowest bid pave jobs.

Then my municipality is overkill with clearing streets. Like the streets dept salivates over the OT. Copious amounts of product on the streets - I am pretty sure it facilitated my prior car's floorboard completely rusting through - i noticed it when I saw the rubber floor padding hanging below the car - I still drove it for a month more like that.

Then you have the private plow cowboys racing around everywhere about running you over trying to plow the [expletive] before it melts anyway.

...I think that about covers my betching about it for now.

We left STL Sunday just as it was hitting. We were on 70 and people were flying by us and it was snowing hard. I said let's get out of here before we get stuck in a pile up. Welp we turn on 61 north and sure enough in the southbound lane there is a four car accident and traffic was backed up miles. It couldn't have been snowing more than a half hour at that point. Why are people so dumb? Also turn your freaking lights on.

They had literal bulldozers working our parking lot yesterday ALL day. Two of them. And at least four people shoveling and spreading salt on the sidewalks as well as between cars. The amount of effort to keep the parking lot and walkways clean was pretty impressive. There were two people out front working the sidewalks with salt again this morning when I got here.

But yeah, I get it as to why they have the budget and experience here. I'm actually surprised that we even average that much in St. Louis. Is that right? I would have figured about 75% of that at the most.

Today I discovered there's a worse party foul than bringing an acoustic guitar to a party. For some reason someone decided to bring in a keyboard to the department holiday party. Very career limiting if you ask me.

That's a choice.
