Granted I don't follow things that closely to know the nuances of the rules, but why wasn't that end zone play pass interference or holding? They kept saying it was because the receiver was pushing too, but then wouldn't they call offsetting penalties and replay the down?
That would have been awesome. But I don't think you they have that option of offsetting interference calls.

Here's a column on that call yesterday and holistic approach to refereeing in SB games. Good players and their coaches (especially with the Bellechik example) should know that anything goes at that point and should adjust accordingly.

49ers should have play-called knowing that it was going to be an unpenalized mugging in the endzone and shouldn't have attempted to finesse a fade pass .

It should've been called defensive holding. Even in the Super Bowl, and even on 4th down, they probably would've still called it had it not been in the end zone. Cost the Niners another shot at the win, but the Falcons were pretty pissed about the exact same thing in the NFC Championship game(the call was much less obvious), so there's a little bit of a karmic aspect to it.

Not that this here play matters so much, and yes I realize there is holding every single down ..but this one is a tad over-the-top.

Even if they threw the flag for holding, it wouldn't have changed anything. Holding in the end zone is a safety, but is enforced after the play is finished.

Florio addresses that here: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -in-rules/

Yea. and as flagrant as it was, I wouldn't doubt if Baltimore had figured that out and utilized it.

I understand the offense getting shutout (though Steven Jackson deserved a nod for another 1000 season behind that O-Line), but I am surprised that the D didn't get anything.
