NASA will be making a "major" announcement on Wednesday with regards to exoplanets.

Assuming it's not aliens, which it never is (much to my chagrin), what could it possibly be?

Has to be something a little more than "plants discovered that's maybe suitable enough to harbor life", right?

Aliens freak me out. Or the thought of NASA announcing they exist freaks me out.

Hard to believe that they would come out and say, oh, hey youse guys, guess what. We were just checking some satellites the other day and an alien spaceship happened to stop by and say hi. They also showed us a lot of cool things we didn't know existed and gave us a bunch of information we didn't have before...stuff that makes bending space time possible and greatly expanding not only our understanding of the universe but also enabling us to travel to far off places never before dreamed of. We really appreciate it. It was a quick visit though, and we'll probably never hear from them again.

It would probably be something more like hey, uh, there's some aliens around and, uh, we don't know what's going on.

And then this would happen.

Aliens are scary. I am sure there is life out there, but if they have found us and are visiting that's scary because it means they could destroy us any time they want. Fortunately I'm sure they haven't found us.

I do wonder what would happen if there was some event where it was obvious aliens existed. Maybe not even say a UFO landing in central park, but something like we took a photo of Europa and saw an alien structure. I realize that's not going to happen but what would humanities reaction be?

I've thought about it a bit. If NASA or the government provided photographic proof of some irrefutable alien structure (lol, I was about to say something on one of jupiter's moons then looked up europa and saw it was one of jupiter's moons), then I think it would be a divisive reaction. Some people would absolutely refuse to believe the photo is real and convince themselves it was a governemtn cover up. Of course, some people don't believe that the moon landing was real either, so that's to be expected. But, I think it would be a larger percentage of the population.

Of course, some people would also believe it to be true just upon hearing a whisper and say they knew all along.

And, a lot of people would be skeptical but probably come to accept it as fact and then be confused as ever.

It's why I never bought the various "NASA are helping cover up aliens" conspiracy theories - NASA's funding keeps getting cut, so by hiding evidence that the stuff they're looking for exists, they're lying themselves out of existence?

Anyway, I hope they've found something awesome.

Clearly a NASA cover-up.

Will be interesting to see how the research on those planets develops. Since it would only take us a few hundred million years to get there, we better get started now!
