McCain is flip flopping on off-shore drilling. He's now going to be for drilling in Florida, which is apparently a risky move since Floridians do not like it.

I think it's funny how people are so convinced this is going to drop gas prices.

I also think it's funny how gung-ho some people are about more drilling and refining, until it's proposed for their own state or area.

And you live in Texas, where there's already a refinery on every street corner and a pipeline in every backyard.

People want everything done for them, and see people punished. But few want to be inconvenienced themselves to help solve the problem. Which of course is our insane consumption, not the insane prices.

I've been very amused by the garbage situation in Naples, Italy that's been going on for many months now. The landfills are all full so garbage has been piling up in the streets. Mountains of it. It reeks. People are setting it on fire and clashing with the police trying to stop them. Rats are everywhere and cancer rates are on the rise. And yet nobody wants any new landfills or incinerators and protest whenever the government tries to build one in their neighborhood.

From what I gather, its virtually been a deadlock issue in Florida for the past two years, they're just about as much in favor of drilling as they are against it. Before he left office, Castro outsourced the rights for China to drill within 60 miles of Florida, which would tap our own fields. Currently they're still surveying the sediment, not actively drilling. The oil rigs would be 50 miles off the coast, their only real cause for concern is an ecological disaster.

Opening up those fields for exploration would lower gas prices. The market runs on both real-time numbers and future speculation. Right now there is very little being done to actually increase supply. Saudi Arabia won't drill more, and the U.S. only has sub-prime fields open to increased drilling. Just the thought that we will have more crude on the way would help stabilize the market, maybe even lower the price a few cents. The main idea is that we do this now, so ten years from now we can actually have oil on the way, and it will help lower $10gal gas prices in 2018.

Wow. I had not heard about that. Apparently, this has been a problem for over a decade. This website shows garbage piling up as early as 2006. I can't believe people can let things get this bad and still not be able to find a solution. It makes me despair for all humanity. Seriously.

Yeah, it's ludicrous. It seems like nobody will take responsibility for the situation. The govt. blames organized crime for controlling the waste management business, the people blame the govt. for not anticipating the situation and building more landfills but nobody will let a landfill be built near their house. Maybe they should just throw it all into Mt. Vesuvius.

The US Navy has been conducting environmental analyses on drinking water because its worried about the health of its personnel at the base there and have found all manner of bad stuff in it. The EU is threatening fines. Berlusconi has supposedly made remedying the situation his first priority in office. Last I read some garbage was being put on freight trains and shipped to Germany.

Seems to me like one of those situations where you have to piss some people off and just build a freaking landfill before everyone gets cancer and dies or gets eaten alive by rats.

Not having the 'net at home is killing me, and I wanted to discuss the item that was bigger than McCain's flip flop...which is Obama wanting to treat suspected terrorists like jaywalkers.

I wonder how long it will take to scrap and restart the Constitution as the Karl Rove Principles.

Cindy McCain: Spouses are off limits

Quick timeline:

Wednesday morning: Cindy McCain tapes an interview criticizing Michelle Obama for the "For the first time..." comment again.
Wednesday evening: While discussing whether potential first ladies should be fair game on MSNBC, the Democratic member of the panel mentions that John McCain left his crippled first wife for the lobbyist (Cindy) he had been seeing, who later went through addiction, falling so low as to steal narcotics from the charitable foundation she headed.
Thursday morning: Cindy McCain thinks candidates' spouses should be off limits.

Looks like I'm not voting for Cindy McCain.
