The thing is, with Molina battng fifth, with his running speed, you really have to consider it as battng seventh, as his teammates will tend to pass him on the basepaths.obucard wrote:Unless it actually works.planet pujolsian wrote:I hope it's just a temporary experiment.Fat Strat wrote:Molina hitting 5th tomorrow? FWIW, despite the name "Indians" and the whole Chief Wahoo thing, it's entirely appropriate for Cleveland to be involved in this game, as they were the first AL team to have a black player (Larry Doby, 1948).
The mystery is why the Cardinals were selected - the Cards were the *last* NL team to have a black player (Tom Alston, mid-1950's). It really should have been the Dodgers, but I suspect that LA and Anaheim management didn't want to give up the annual Freeway Series of games they play at the tail end of ST.
For the same reason, the Dodgers aren't playing any exhibition games here in Las Vegas, even though the 51's are their AAA team - instead, we get the Cubs and Mariners.

I suspect that it's because the museum is in Memphis, and that park is an affiliated team of the Cardinals. What's his name, the GM of the Redbirds, made it sound like it was their idea to begin with a year or so ago, and that they've been pitching it to MLB and getting the kinks worked out since then.
