I, however, hope we can deal for a great corner OF that can be a staple in right or left for years. After Jimmy's gone, we're left with one of the worst OF in baseball. Not sure J-Rod will provide anything other than a little pop off the bench.

I was at the game and I wasn't even that upset.

The key to the game was who was hitting in the 2 hole for both teams.

LaRussa had a power/k man and he failed to do the job

Randolph had a man that got a piece of the ball and could go to right field and he did the job.

The man making out the lineup is the one that lost/won the game IMO

Maybe I'm just drunk, but I think this team to me resembles the team that was 10 games under .500 for the last 4 months of last year. Watching the game last night reminded me a lot of the stinkers we saw at the end of last year. Sorry for being pessimistic, hopefully I'm wrong.

Sometimes you have to give the other team some credit. The Mets played a solid game. The Cardinals did not.

Alou making that catch in the 6th inning was big. We where starting to get to Glavine. Alou dosen't make that catch, the breaks come our way. And then Beltran makes the perfect throw to the plate to nail Eck.

Randolph got lucky this time leaving in Glavine to face Molina with the Bases filled. Over 85 pitches and his ball was up.

The Mets got the breaks last night.

That's all. No reason to "panic"

IMO the turning point in the game (other than Carp not having command) was when Oquendo waved Eckstein home. With Pujols coming up with less than 1 out he'll most likely get him home anyway and if Eck doesn't go, Wilson would be at first blocking them from giving AP the walk. I know we had two bases loaded situations after that where we didn't get anything but I think that's where the game was lost.

Sloppy play all around. If the Gooch is gonna be on this team (let alone start) he has to play GOOD defense. Duncan could have been just as bad in left last night but he at least would have given the club another legit power threat. Also, Yadi's looking good at the plate (he's made serious adjustments that make me believe he's gonna have a decent year) but it would have been nice to have Edmonds or Wilson up in that bases loaded situation. If Duncan's in the lineup, one of them would have been.

Just a sloppy game last night. Yes the Mets were the better team but we could have easily made it a close game. Better execution will be needed if we want to make the playoffs. I'm confident we'll be better Tuesday.

So, Raddy, just curious....if LaRussa "lost" the game last night due to his lineup, I believe you are (conversely) saying that you hereby give him complete and full credit for winning the world series?!!! As you know, those were his lineups in WS every game......

I actually did not see Yadi hit once this spring, so I was curious to see what he looked liked. I know that he looked different in the post season, so I was hoping for adjustments like you described above -- that for once something stuck.

Personally, I was disappointed to see that he still twists himself into that corkscrew and has that crouch, and takes a very long swing. I know he had a couple hits (one unfortunately I missed, and then they cut away to a NASCAR update so no replay), but I didn't like what I saw of his swing.

Thank you. It isn't like this lineup didn't hit the ball, or have its chances. The Mets scored almost all of their runs with two out hits, and a lot of those bleeders at that. I think they had one, maybe two extra base hits all night, didn't they? I didn't expect to score that much against Glavine anyway. If Carp gets out of a couple of his 2-out jams, we might have won it. He didn't.

The Mets played some amazing(over the heads, really) defense that saved them multiple runs(I doubt Alou makes that kind of play again this year, and Valentin usually doesn't make the play he did, either). The Cards' defense is better than what we saw last night. They definitely got outplayed in this factor.

The team did a lot of things highly uncharacteristic of Cardinal teams of recent ilk: Oquendo's botch (that took a perfect throw from Beltran, btw, and he did it), the failed squeeze.

One game and we're throwing in the towel? Huh. This is Gatewayredbirds and not CT, right?

I know it's a buzzkill to start the year out that way especially since we now have to wait a day and a half and let it stew for a while before they go back out there, but come on.

I think the Cards are going to struggle to score runs against lefties all season.
