What is the big deal about having a thread move? I just don't really get it I guess. One extra click and you can go see all the light hearted topics you want in the social forum. We leave shadow topics so you can see the thread title in baseball talk until it gets knocked off the first page.

I think the reason is that it's changing the dynamics of the forum. People who have had their posts moved in the past may not be as apt to post similar threads in the future for fear of the thread being out of place. The post moving itsself isn't really a big deal. It's more the fact that some feel that baseball talk has deteriorated in quality and fun over the last few months and feel that allowing posts like these that are currently being moved, and even encouraging these sorts of posts, is one way that we can try to ensure that the forum doesn't lose the quality and fun that it currently has.

I don't think anyone feels that GRB is currently dying, but I will admit that it has deteriorated some. Some of that is inevitable with the growth this site has experienced, but some of it I feel can be changed or slowed and this is one of the ways. It's not really that threads are being moved in fact, it's more the principle behind the reasoning. You (the moderators and administrators) have detirmined that it's best for the forum to narrow the scope of baseball talk, and now we're telling you that we feel you're removing a vital element of the forum by doing that. Posts being moved and moderated really isn't what we're complaining about, that's just the only visible example of our complaint.

Make sense? Cause I bet if I re-read what I just wrote I wouldn't even understand it.

Conversely, you could argue that if it doesn't matter which forum a topic goes in, there's no reason to move them. Clearly, it matters.

It matters which forum it goes in if we are to avoid the chaos of other boards. I just don't understand the stigma with having a post moved.

Baseball Talk is designed to be more serious because we are a baseball forum first. We enjoy having focused and serious discussions, but we enjoy the lighter side too, so we move things to social where the same amount of people can read them if they are interested in the social aspect of the site. Not everyone is. Some people just want no nonsense baseball. This provides the best of both worlds for each.

I'm not sure about this. Moving threads sends the signal that your topic is not good enough and that you should just go talk about what you had for lunch with the rest of the unworthies. It other words, it's intimidating.

Right now baseball talk is not exactly overwhelmed with traffic. I don't think it would hurt to back off a bit.

Also, we're not complaining about threads about what people had for breakfast being moved. Most of the threads that we've had issue with thus far are ones that were based around baseball discussion.

Honestly, I'm afraid to post in Baseball Talk sometimes because I think that my opinion's going to be torn to shreds in mere seconds because I don't have enough statistical data to validate my opinion...even though it's my opinion.

I think both the stat-heavy and the stat-light views of baseball are both good, and that one kind may suit one particular person better than the other. But, they're equal, and I really don't think they're getting equal treatment here.

Mods, there are some serious opinions that are posted in this thread. Whether I or you agree with thier opinions or not, hope you will consider the opinions of the masses.
