Re: Latest BCS Rankings: Mizzou @ #6
my wishful thinking has Michigan knocking off Ohio St.
LSU has one let down game but wins SEC championship
Oregon - what's the word on Dixon? If he's hurt, Oregon loses at least one. If not, they win out.
KU - loses one game this year. Unfortunately for them it's against Mizzou...
OK - concedes the big12 championship game after Mizzou racks up 400 yards of offense in the first half, including two touchdowns after the 2 minute warning.
NC game is Tiger vs. Tiger. National Anthem song by Tiger Woods. Those two guys from Vegas are the honorary captains. And Britany Spears, in tiger print panties, does the half time show. Beware of the dreaded wardrobe malfunction.

If KU ends up undefeated after beating two top 5 teams, while LSU only defeats 3 non-ranked teams, and maybe a top 10 team in the SEC championship, KU may jump ahead of LSU in the polls, which factor fairly heavily in the BCS.longhornbaseball wrote:LSU needs to win out and have either OSU or KU to lose. If KU runs the table defeating two top 5 teams in the process, I don't see how they wouldn't jump LSU. I'm not completely sure how the BCS works though.cardsfansince82 wrote:Why does LSU need anyone but Kansas to lose? Hell, even if in the unlikely scenario that Kansas wins out LSU could still be in the title game over them. Once you reach number one or two in the BCS it is pretty hard for someone to overtake you, especially considering that LSU will bolster their resume should they beat a Georgia or someone else in the SEC championship.

So.... did West Virginia's win over Louisville help or hurt Mizzou? They won (bad for Mizzou) but just barely (good for Mizzou) against a team that was ranked at one point (bad for Mizzou) but is now unranked and just 5-5 (good for Mizzou).
Honestly, in all of these scenarios, you can't forget West Virginia. They're just a few percentage points behind the Tigers. A loss to UConn would set my mind at ease a bit.

If Mizzou's only loss came against a top 5 team, then they turn around and beat that same top 5 team in a championship game, they'll stay ahead of WV. Especially if KU is undefeated before Mizzou theortically beats them.RC21 wrote: Honestly, in all of these scenarios, you can't forget West Virginia. Next question.... if Mizzou ends up with two losses, both to OU, would they still end up in a BCS bowl? Is that likely? Unlikely?

I guess they'd have an outside shot, but I don't think it's a great chance. KU may only have 1 loss in that scenario.

I'd consider it unlikely. Mizzou won't travel well enough to invite a 2-loss team to a BCS game. To be invited as a 2-loss squad, you have to be a Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, etc.RC21 wrote:Next question.... if Mizzou ends up with two losses, both to OU, would they still end up in a BCS bowl? Aye, but both of Mizzou's losses would be to another BCS team in that scenario. And they'd be undefeated against everyone else. AND the one-loss Jayhawks would have their only loss to Mizzou.Popeye_Card wrote:I'd consider it unlikely. Mizzou won't travel well enough to invite a 2-loss team to a BCS game. I'm not sure if it's likely, but it certainly is more likely than in recent years. There's no dominant non-BCS team this year (Utah, Boise State, etc.) I know Hawaii is undefeated, but they've had to claw to beat Louisiana Tech and San Jose State this year--not exactly convincing.
I think a lot of it would depend on how Mizzou played in that second game against OU.

NOTE: I actually hope to see this scenario happen just to see RC's head explode.

But the at-large teams they select are either non-BCS conference teams (like perhaps a Hawaii this year), or good teams that will bring a ton of fans and TV audience. Mizzou has a tough time even filling their own stadium some Saturdays. If Michigan ends up beating Ohio State, and they get to choose between a 2-loss Michigan vs. a 2-loss Mizzou, they'll take Michigan. It won't really matter at that point who the two losses came against.RC21 wrote:

That is precisely what would happen.Popeye_Card wrote:NOTE: I actually hope to see this scenario happen just to see RC's head explode.

Oregon has gradually become a more respectable loss, even if it was total annihilation. But that Appy State loss is inexcusable. If Michigan ends up a BCS team with that loss on their schedule, it will forever prove my point about the way the Wolverines are viewed.
