It's almost like I'm getting a second stimulus check.cardsfansince82 wrote:Vegas always favors traditional powers on their over/unders.mikechamp wrote:
P.S. Will Vegas take my wager against PECOTA?
They have the Rays at 73 wins...they have the Cardinals at 80 wins.

The Rays are just a good source of hope... especially for the bad teams. Just goes to show that anything can happen. That's really something, there. I'll be rooting for them.

Welcome to the board.xlovemybluex wrote:The Rays are just a good source of hope... especially for the bad teams. Just goes to show that anything can happen. That's really something, there. I'll be rooting for them.
Do you mean hope in terms of teams constantly in the cellar and finally breaking free, or just catching lightening in a bottle and having a great season? It's definitely not the latter with this bunch, some people (and computer simulations) knew this from day 1 of the season. I don't think they will hold off Boston, but I do think they are in it for the long haul.
And I know there is one member of this board who just has to be having a great summer.

it's kinda cool to hear the Rays name brought up in trade discussions with them on the other side now as buyers.
They're talking a little about Jason Bay and CC Sabathia.
Adding Sabathia to that rotation would give them enough to fight Boston down the stretch, I think, but they're not going to pay him after the season so I wonder if they'd actually go through with it.

Welcome to GRB, xlove. We like sensible fans of other teams here. You will be made fun of, of course, but as long as you like talking baseball (and love VORP WARP GORP and the square root of OPS+) you'll fit right in.
There are some signs that the Royals could be a successful team in the not too distant future. Some wise draft picks and young talent to build from (Butler, Gordon, Aviles, Greinke), some good signings (Meche, Bannister), and some decent role players (Teahen, DeJesus), and someday they could compete with a little more talent.

Me, I just like seeing the Bloated Empires looking up at those scrappy, hungry, adjective-laden Rays. I guess the whole Devil thing really was holding them back. Who knew?
Young, talented teams like that are often more fun to watch than solid/stolid veteran teams. I wish more Rays games were on the tube here.

On the subject of the thread: I love the Rays and the way they've built their team. As long as it's not against the Cardinals, there is no team I'd like more to see win a world series.

I'm loving the Rays beating the evil empires(yes, plural). I don't see how anyone can't, it's a great story.
