Can't argue with a 12 pack for $10.55, but Shiner is just OK, imo. My roommate is from Texas and buys it. I don't think it's anything special. Certainly a great deal for that price, though.

Tonight I had, in order:

Gouden Carolus (quite nice)
Lagunitas Maximus (outstanding!!)
Anderson Valley Boont Ale (solid)
North Coast Old No. 38 Stout (very good)

*Lagunitas is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries.

If I'm thinking of the right brew, I'm pretty sure I've had the one you mentioned, and it's phenomenal.

The ice is dead, but the Evan Williams lives on. Whenever it's done freezing, we'll know if tonight's my night. I'm nervous, but up for the challenge.

Where's Kyle these days? Ridiculous.

I busted out the sweet vermouth. It's awful-manhattan time. Wrist of bitters and a twist. That's right.

I'll be message board blogging through this experience. I hope it makes someone's Wednesday extra [expletive].

The ice isn't really done freezing. This could get interesting.

Should I use what I have now, or wait until it's frozen all the way through? OK, I'm using it. I'm sure this is a big mistake.

Alright, a whole tray of ice equals half a glass. This should be fun.

Stay tuned. Or don't. Actually, I suggest that you do not.

This is an awesome beer. They sell it at the Tinderbox in Columbia, but I've never seen it anywhere else.

This one you can find everywhere and it is t-riff. Make sure you buy the bottles, not the cans. Unless they are the 16 oz cans, then it's perfectly acceptable to trade quality for quality+quantity.

It's excellent when followed by this spectacular concoction:

A really transcendent beer/whiskey pairing.

This ice situation is disastrous. I sort of have enough to make a new drink every 30 minutes. But I have to make sure I crush the ice so I don't contaminate the Evan Williams with cubes full of water. This is terrible. Not a big fan of Gallo vermouth either. Live and learn.

On topic: Someone please tell me if there's anywhere I can buy Yuengling in the Chicago area.

OK, I win. And by win I mean lose. But at least I stuck it to that bottle of cheap sour mash crap. Here's what I'm listening to right now:

Sorry for the hijack. I look forward to all of you using terms like "hophead".
